Making a Life in Photography — Rollie McKenna

Through May 16, the Center for Creative Photography is presenting “Making a Life in Photography,” featuring the work of Rosalie “Rollie” Thorne McKenna. The late photographer, 1918 to 2003, graduated from Vassar College in 1940 and worked independently as a sought-after architectural and portrait photographer. Her work has been praised as a unique and underrecognized contribution to American modernism and documentary photography. The gallery is closed on Sundays.

‘Petals and Prickles’

The Tucson Desert Art Museum’s “Petals and Prickles” exhibit showcases botanical art from the desert southwest. Through April 18, the show features a collection of work from 18 artists — each presenting pieces inspired by desert blooms, cacti and other flora in the region. Their work celebrates the rich colors, intricate textures, and dramatic forms found in the Southwest landscape.

‘On a Winter’s Night’

On Thursday, March 12, The Fox Tucson Theatre will present the “On a Winter’s Night” reunion tour. The veteran singer-songwriters have been praised as the brightest stars for the past three decades. Among them is Christine Lavin, who gathered the folk and Americana artists group in 1994. Patty Larkin, Cliff Eberhardt, John Gorka and Lucy Kaplansky have released dozens of recordings and toured steadily through the decades, with fond memories of their touring days together.

The SAAG Gallery at Joesler Village hosts public half-day art activities all month — with each session featuring a different project, using and learning various techniques. For Thursday, March 12, Theresa Poalucci will host “3 Ways to Make Acrylic Flow.” Each class will be hosted in SAAG’s new, state of the art classroom.

‘Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help’

Katie Forgette’s “Incident at Our Lady of Perpetual Help” lands at the Invisible Theatre for the venue’s 54th Season. The story follows the O’Shea family — a cash-challenged, Irish-Catholic family trying to get through 1973. 19-year-old Linda O’Shea is the narrator, attempting to re-enact for the audience the most turbulent day of her life — her own personal Saturday Night Massacre, but her family keeps interrupting and insisting on telling their side of the story.

Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival

Presented by the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, the Winter Chamber Music Festival is a concert series — celebrated for its artistry and curated repertoire. Artistic Co-Directors Peter Rejto and Bernadette Harvey are returning this year for the event’s 33rd season. The program features music from classical composers, including Brahms, Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Dvořák, as well as a selection of more contemporary works as well. Concert dates include March 8, 10, 11, 13, 14 and 15.

Ali Wong Live

Emmy award-winning actress, comedian, writer and producer Ali Wong will perform at Linda Ronstadt Music Hall on Saturday, March 14. Known for her breakout Netflix stand-up specials “Baby Cobra,” “Hard Knock Wife” and the Emmy-nominated “Don Wong,” the artist released a fourth Netflix special in October 2024 — “Ali Wong: Single Lady.” Wong earned a Golden Globe for the special and was nominated for a Critics Choice TV Award and a Directors Guild of America Award.

BoDeans

MARCH 15

American rock band BoDeans will perform at The Fox Tucson Theatre on Sunday, March 15. Contributing to the American songbook since 1980, the group is most known for various anthems, including “Good Things,” “You Don’t Get Much,” “Idaho” and “Closer To Free.” BoDeans was founded by songwriter, instrumentalist and producer Kurt Neumann in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention

The Wild Wild West Steampunk Convention invites members of the community to the historic Westward Look — originally a 1912 hacienda, located on 80 acres of the Sonoran Desert foothills. The event will feature hand-crafted cocktails by citrus and hummingbird gardens, relaxation time in the pools and hot tubs and view of the saguaros and the Catalina Mountains. Guests can expect a lineup of special guests, entertainers, panels and games. Attendees are not required to wear costumes or specific attire.
