Tucson Holiday Ice

Tucson’s Ice Rink will be available through the entire holiday season in front of the Tucson Convention Center — and is made of real rather than synthetic ice. Purchase of a ticket online includes a pair of rental skates for a 90-minute session. The skate size starts at a size 8 and goes as large as men’s 15. Socks are required for skating and gloves are recommended as well. The skating rink will be closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas day.

Frida’s Garden

Tucson Botanical Gardens’ “Frida’s Garden” Exhibit is dedicated to the iconic visual artist Frida Kahlo. Inspired by Kahlo’s garden in Mexico City, called “La Casa Azul,” the space features a scaled-down version of the Aztec-inspired pyramid and Toad Pond and plant life that honors the original — with some Southwestern additions.

A Year Frog and Toad

Live Theatre Workshop is paying homage to the Books by Arnold Lobel — “Frog and Toad.” The production was a hit on Broadway, featuring music by Robert Reale and Willie Reale. “Frog and Toad” follows the adventures of the cheerful Frog and his grumpier best friend Toad, as they experience the four seasons. In their journey, the two learn about the ups and down of friendship while learning to understand and celebrate their differences.

‘Heist’

DEC. 4 to DEC. 20

The Arizona Theatre Company will present its production of “Heist” — inspired by films such as “Ocean’s Eleven,” “The Italian Job” and “The Sting.” A group of professional thieves assemble to steal the world’s rarest jewel in a plan that, while seeming foolproof, goes wrong at every juncture. The end result of the heist keeps the audience guessing after the show has concluded.

David Huckfelt and Tom Walbank

Folk and blues music artists David Huckfelt and Tom Walbank will perform at the new event venue in Tucson, La Rosa. The two have a 20-year musical relationship and close friendship. Their performance on Dec. 4 will commemorate the release of each musician’s new record — Huckfelt’s “I Was Born, But…” and Walbank’s “In the Details.” The show will also feature various special guests to perform with the headlining artists, including Howe Gelb, Gabriel Sullivan, Winston Watson, Thoger Lund and others.

Suzy Bogguss — ‘A 

Swingin’ Little Christmas’

Suzy Bogguss will perform at The Fox Tucson Theatre as part of the “A Swinging’ Little Christmas” show. The evening of Christmas standards will be paired with holiday tunes and fan-favorite songs from Bogguss’ career, in sing-along style for patrons to engage with. The singer’s career took off in the 90s with her songs “Outbound Plane,” “Someday Soon,” “Letting Go” and “Drive South.”

Jake Shimabukuro — 

Holidays in Hawaii

Jake Shimabukuro’s upcoming performance at The Fox Tucson Theatre carries the theme of a Hawaiian holiday season. An expert Ukulele player, Shimabukuro will perform traditional and contemporary Christmas favorites, including “We Three Kings,” “O Holy Night,” “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “I’ll Be Home For Christmas.” Additionally, Shimabukuro’s setlist will include selections from his new album, “Grateful.”

‘Elf’

The Fox Tucson Theatre is hosting screenings of classic 2003 Holiday movie, “Elf,” starring Will Ferrell. Ferrell’s character, Buddy, is a human boy raised by Santa’s elves in the North Pole and believes himself to be an oversized elf. The story follows Buddy as he searches for his true place in the world, ending up in New York City — where he finds his biological father.
