In case you missed it, former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl made a documentary.

The film, Sound City, showcased a run-down, shabby Van Nuys, Calif. recording studio of the same name that made a bunch of awesome records like Nevermind, Tom Petty's Damn the Torpedos, and Rumors by Fleetwood Mac.

Not missing out on any opportunities to make some great music, Grohl decided he'd get together with all these Sound City artists, and make an assortment of lineups to record an album on the studio's original console (which has since been relocated to Grohl's studio in Virginia). The result: Sound City: Real to Reel by the Sound City Players.

Set for release on March 12, the record and all of its 11 tracks are up now to stream at NPR's website. Each song features Grohl on one of however many instruments he knows how to play, along with contributions from folks such as Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Queens of the Stone Age's Josh Homme, Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic and even Paul McCartney. McCartney never actually played at Sound City, but I'd call him up and ask him to jam too if he was in my cell phone.

When the record finally drops on March 12, it'll be up for grabs on iTunes.
