Workers would get a little more take-home pay under a payroll tax “holiday” being pushed by the Trump administration, but it could also come with a large back-taxes bill next year. When you’re flying solo and don’t need a lot of space, Tucson is the place you want to be.

The Old Pueblo ranks #1 in the nation’s top 100 largest cities for having the cheapest studio apartment prices, at an average of $659 a month, as reported by a recent apartmentguide.com study. Tucson also has the 10th cheapest one-bedroom apartments and rises to 16th for a two-bedroom unit, according to the study.

Tucson comes in at #3 for smallest studio apartments in America’s top 100 cities weighing in with an average of 361 square feet of living space. One-bedroom rentals come in at #5 with a 654 square-foot average and two-bedroom domiciles top out at #16 on the list at 972 square feet.

The study was intended to see which U.S. city had the smallest apartments based populations of more than 220,000 inhabitants, taking into account the average square-foot per space, along with the average rent for the type of residence in each city researched.

Portland, Ore., and Reno placed #1 and #2 respectively on the ranking with Albuquerque coming in #4, and Kansas City capping the list’s top 5.

  1. That’s not saying much. $659 a month for 361 square feet represents pent up demand for studio apartment housing, especially since “apartment” can also include mobile home here in Tucson.

  2. Most apartment complexes require an income of 2x to 2.5x monthly rent. This means that a person working full time for minimum wage can barely afford a studio. What’s wrong with this picture?

  3. It’s the picture. How long is somebody only worth minimum wage? They should make themselves more valuable by showering, showing up on time, doing the job to the best of their ability and if they use drugs or alcohol to excess, stop it.

So with that out of the way let’s do some simple math. A position that pays $12 per hour on a forty hour week would gross $1920 per month. A room mate brings rent down to $350 per month. Oscar and Felix did it in Odd Couple.

Once you receive an increase in pay, start a savings account as an emergency fund.

So sad that the public schools are graduating uneducated idiots in some cases. Not all.
