Now, I am not a huge fan of cable news, but I have been catching Anderson Cooper on CNN and his coverage of the Orlando mass shooting. He has been tactful. Most importantly, he has not acted the way we are taught in journalism school—cold and emotionless, no matter how horrific the events we’re covering are, for the sake of being “neutral.”

After the events at Pulse nightclub, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has promised to go after anyone who causes any harm to the LGBT community. It’s ironic and hypocritical—like Cooper so majestically told her during an interview today—because blocking same-sex marriage in Florida has been at the forefront of Bondi’s work as attorney general.

“Do you really think you’re a champion of gay rights?” Cooper asked. “I’ve never heard you say anything positive about gays before.” Cooper told her off and did not let Bondi speak for at least five minutes.

Anti-LGBT laws are the gateway into normalizing and condoning homophobia and transphobia. From there, it is a very fine line to cross into hate crime massacres like the one at Pulse, where 49 LGBT brothers and sisters died early Sunday morning.

  1. What an incredible display of deflection and even defense of the killer by this blatant bigot of a ‘blogger’.

Believing in marriage between a man and woman is gateway to mass murder?

  2. At the end of this broadcast on CNN Anderson Cooper said he could not find the “rainbow clasped hands” she claimed was on her web sight. She is an opportunist and will continue her anti gay crusade when the horror of this event subsides.

  3. That’s right let’s not be neutral and report the news. Lets promote agendas so the public will follow us. Sounds so German.

  4. “That’s right let’s not be neutral and report the news. Lets promote agendas so the public will follow us.”

Or lets have the press do the job that they are suppose to do and that is to press our public officials on their lying BS and hypocrisy. The press, blinded by their agendas on both sides of the spectrum, have failed the American public. Perhaps if they had done their job, America wouldn’t have marched into an unnecessary war 15 years ago that we are still paying for in American lives. It’s good to see someone pressing these blatant hypocrites that think they are above scrutiny. I hope we see much more of this.

  5. So are you saying that radical islamists that want to kill everybody else on earth because they are infidels, should not be stopped?

There are decades of instances where the media has not held government to accountability. But joining one side will not provide the results you desire. Journalism is gone forever.

What do you think of Hillary’s missing emails? How about Saudi funding her campaign? Should it be reported? Should she be held accountable?

  6. Peabo, do you ever wonder why Fox started broadcasting and how they had moved to #1 in cable news? Their competition was very experienced at broadcasting news.-Gimminy Glick

    Do you ever wonder….?

  7. @ roger J “So are you saying that radical islamists that want to kill everybody else on earth because they are infidels, should not be stopped?”

Is that why you think W sent our soldiers into Iraq – a secular country that didn’t become radicalized until AFTER we left the place in tatters? Selective memory or selective history?

Yes, I do think that Hillary should be pressed on all issues as should all public officials. As should W and his staff and Trump’s half-truths and all out lies. I’m giving kudos to Cooper for at least taking Bondi to task for her misleading actions that she attempts to gloss over and hoping that we can see more of this. If, as you say, “Journalism is gone forever” then that is a very sad day as you can’t have an open forum and open democracy without it.

  8. Everybody has selective something…Hussein killed Iraqi Kurds with phosgene in the 80s and Clinton (Mr) presided over two WTC bombings by jihadists from Iraq and other terror sponsoring countries.

We have never been a country to ignore those needing our help. We now have a glut of oil and are still there, so it can’t just be about oil. I have to caution myself not to oversimplify it. We may never figure them out. But who else will stop their killing?

And real hard nose journalism disappeared about the same time as the internet appeared. We have such a great medium, and yet what a shame reporting has become because of agendas. Did college professors promote it?

  9. The truth revealed – deflection and “sick irony” amid political doubletalk. The woman was fuming.
