Arizona was set back a couple decades on Wednesday when the Senate passed proposition SB 1062. The bill will allow businesses to refuse service based on the owners' religious beliefs. Jan Brewer's signature is the only thing that's keeping this piece of legislation from going into effect.
Some anonymous upstanding Arizonan created a Bad4AzBiz Facebook page in opposition of SB 1062 and HB 2153. HB 2153, also known as Religious Freedom Restoration Act, strengthens SB 1062 and jeopardizes a person’s free exercise of religion in Arizona. The Facebook page has gathered 1,400 likes and counting. Hero Phoenix and #Bad4AzBiz are planning a demonstration at 4 p.m. tonight at the State Capitol, 1700 W Washington St., Phoenix, Arizona.
From the Facebook event page:
Arizona’s State Legislature and the conservative majority in control are pushing to pass the expanded “religious freedom” bills and then have them signed immediately by Governor Brewer. These bills would allow businesses to deny services based on their deeply held religious beliefs, basically making discrimination legal and making the LGBTQ Community a clear target. But we know it won't stop there!
Some of you asked "What can I do to stop this?" Try picking up the phone and contacting the Governor's office at 602-542-4331 if you can't make it to the demonstration. Click here for more information and here to like the Bad4AzBiz Facebook page.
