Bored Yet With Playing Outdoors? Here's a Thought

Posted By on Wed, Jan 29, 2014 at 4:00 PM

Look for a blistering 81-degree-high tomorrow, then a cold front will set us back all the way to highs in the low 70s through the weekend. Having probably trekked every hike you can imagine, and gone fishing, camping, birdwatching, picnicking and rock-climbing all over Southern Arizona already so far this winter, you might wish for a change of pace.

Tucson's Museum of Contemporary Art feels your pain, so they're opening their doors for free from noon to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday. They'll be busy installing a new exhibit in the East Wing — Janaina Tshäpe's Floating Worlds, on display from Saturday, Feb. 15, through Sunday, April 27 — but you will be able to visit Alois Kronschlaeger: Untitled (Basin and Range), which continues through Sunday, March 16, in the Great Hall.

Kronschlaeger's reveals his process and images of Basin and Range on his website. MOCA's website tells a little more about this specific installation:

'Untitled (Basin and Range)' is an immersive, site-specific installation that brings an unexpected, monumental geographic feature into the Great Hall. We are used to engaging with the classic “basin and range” topography in the landscape, but constructing this landmass in a museum gallery setting radically reorients the viewer’s sense of place and scale, providing an unprecedented art experience.

You'll find MOCA in the old fire station across Church Street from the Tucson Convention Center, immediately west of the police station and opposite the southwest parking lot of St. Augustine Cathedral. Or just give this info to your phone's navigator lady:
