Built to Spill, not really promoting anything but featuring a new lineup, will hit the new, larger stage at Club Congress tonight, but if you don't have tickets already...tough break, the show sold out earlier today.

However, if you're looking to cram a bit before the show (or wistfully listen to what you're going to miss), here's a Spotify playlist of ten of their best songs, as arbitrarily chosen by me, a guy who used to make music playlists for a living.

Enjoy.

Winter Garden Glory
  • The Potted Desert
  • Winter Garden Glory

Winter annual flowers supply brilliant color, grow quickly, and provide a "wow" factor to your desert landscape. Adding annuals to pots that have an established central plant and fill smaller pots with bouquets of your favorites will give you a garden that will thrill you all winter long. See the list of appropriate plants in the neighboring sidebar.
Note: If you have pots that you are not planting new plants, be sure to add fertilizer and water thoroughly with the application.

Step 1:
Remove all dead plants, dying plants or past their prime plants. Be somewhat careful of the roots of the central plant. Be sure to get out all old roots and anything that does not seem healthy.
Step 2:
Add fresh potting soil and a handful of time release fertilizer and mix it in with the old soil as much as possible. NOTE: If the old soil is entirely root bound, you are going to need to remove the central plant, discard the soil and start with fresh.)
Step 3:
Plant your new flowers leaving about 1-2” between plants.
Step 4:
Pack additional soil in around the plants, making sure you do not bury the stems deeper than originally planted in their nursery container.
Step 5:
Water in thoroughly with a gentle shower.

NOTE:
Advice for flower shopping: Grab a cart at the nursery and an empty flat or carton and place your selections on the flat and then step back and look at it. Look at it hard and long and be sure it sits right with you. A 24” pot with one central planting will need approximately fourteen (14) “4” inch” plants. If you select any gallon plants, they can replace 3-4 smaller ones. I urge you to use 4” plants and not six-packs.

Important: When you go shopping and bring your plants home, water them in well and plant as soon as possible — as in the same day. If you have to wait until the next morning, place them in the shade to rest until the morning.

About 9,000 cyclists came out to ride in the 31st annual El Tour de Tucson despite consistent rainfall and overcast skies. Sabino Creek eventually had to be closed midway through the race because of flooding, but that didn't stop fans from coming out to support the cyclists. The 2013 El Tour had the sixth most registered riders in its history and marks the first time the race has seen rain.

This year's El Tour also had the inauspicious distinction of having the second only tour-related fatality when a rider was struck on Interstate 10 and Sunset Road, story on KOLD News Now here.

Listen to Robert Alcaraz's report at El Tour de Tucson below.

Anchorman 2 promotions just keep getting better and more topical. The Chrysler Dodge Durango web commercials starring Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy have been very successful for the car company. Chrysler data shows Durango sales increased by 60% in the month of October. Hopefully, those new car owners aren't disappointed with their new purchase after Burgundy's comments on Conan O'Brien's TBS talk show. "It's a terrible car," Ferrell as Burgundy confessed to O'Brien. "They gave me one for free, and I drove it four feet and the thing cracked in half."

On last night's AZ Illustrated Politics: Arizona Education Network President Ann-Eve Pedersen, National Committeeman Bruce Ash, Pima County Democratic Party Chairman Don Jorgensen and Inside Tucson Business editor Mark Evans talked about the EPA's concerns about the Rosemont Mine; the National Republican Congressional Committee's plan to take back the three competitive congressional seats in Arizona by running a campaign centered around Obamacare; the U.S. Senate Democrats' decision to invoke the nuclear option on the filibuster of judges and White House appointees; and the challenges facing TUSD.

Don't let a little rain stop you from going out and partying.

Tonight three Arizona bands are going to take the stage at Plush, 340 East 6th St. The Electric Blankets will keep you warm and dancing along with Phoenix indie bands Celebration Guns and Saddles. Tickets are only $5 and the show starts at 9 p.m. You have to admit that's one of the best promotional posters ever. Three headed dogs get me everytime.

We all hate Youtube comments. We have all had our fair share of internet arguments, and most of you have had your best matches in our comment sections. One day we should take a poll for the best Weekly comment wars and hire children to reenact them.

Pharrell Williams, more recently famous for his production on Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" and Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" is looking to make your day just a bit brighter, with a bright, dance-filled 24 hour music video for his latest song, "Happy."

The music video is, in truth, 24 hours of clips of people dancing to his entry on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack, but it's so damn cheerful that it's difficult to be upset with it. I mean, I'm on my fourth listen of the song, but I'm still bobbing my head and singing along to it, and not in a Stockholm Syndrome-y way...though if this is all part of Pharrell's plan to hypnotically suggest Western civilization into doing his bidding, this is absolutely one of the more pleasant ways to go about it.

Eddie Money at the Fox Theatre

The well endowed bachelor pad of the 70s might have been defined by the water bed, the lava lamps, shag carpeting and, intriguingly, some of Eddie Money's symphonic blues on the stereo. Two tickets to paradise.
