Movie rental stores like Blockbuster have been greatly affected by sites like Netflix and Red Boxes. Yesterday Dish Network announced that they are finally closing the last of their 300 video stores and disc-by-mail service, but the online streaming rental service Blockbuster Now will continue to operate.
"This is not an easy decision, yet consumer demand is clearly moving to digital distribution of video entertainment," said Dish CEO Joseph Clayton in a press release. The online streaming rental service Blockbuster Now will live on, and Dish will retail licensing rights to the Blockbuster brand. Both the retail stores and Blockbuster's disc-by-mail service will be shut down by early January 2014.
There are currently four Blockbuster branches in Tucson:
1. Broadway/Craycroft
2. Golf Links/Kolb Rd
3. Ina/Shannon
4. Valencia/Nexus
So go out and support Casa Video and don't let Netflix take over.
