You might have seen the above video floating around the internet yesterday, but you may or may not have been aware that it was shot in Tucson, by Adam Smith, CFO/Treasurer of Tucson company Vante. Well, former CFO/Treasurer of Vante, as he was let go by the medical technology company yesterday:
Vante regrets the unfortunate events that transpired yesterday in Tucson between our former CFO/Treasurer Adam Smith and an employee at Chick-fil-A. Effective immediately, Mr. Smith is no longer an employee of our company.
The actions of Mr. Smith do not reflect our corporate values in any manner. Vante is an equal opportunity company with a diverse workforce, which holds diverse opinions. We respect the right of our employees and all Americans to hold and express their personal opinions, however, we also expect our company officers to behave in a manner commensurate with their position and in a respectful fashion that conveys these values of civility with others.
We hope that the general population does not hold Mr. Smith’s actions against Vante and its employees.
Listen, for understandable reasons, the whole Chick-fil-A thing is upsetting to a lot of people (myself included), but treating an employee poorly who had nothing to do with the decision, going to the point of asking her how she sleeps at night, is incredibly graceless. It sucks that Smith is out of a job and an internet villain now, but there’s also something sort of pleasing about him receiving some sort of punishment for his actions.

Actually I think the majority who are not upset with Chik Fil-A explaining their values do not understand why people with who do not have the same values are upset with someone who is expressing their right to free speech and has strong values.

Christopher Demerse: I think it’s possible to have certain values and not be a jerk about expressing them. Free speech is absolutely a right, but you have to take responsibility for what you say. I tend to believe being a “good Christian” person consists of acting justly, loving mercy, walking humbly with God. I don’t know why I should have to deprive other people of their right to live happily in the process.

Answer to first question is Yes their “marriage” is invalid. There “domestic partnership” is valid whoever. “marriage” and the idea of marriage is far beyond a contract you idiot. It is a tradition that has been held for 1000’s of years by many cultures and religions. Chris nor I are arguing the legality of the partnership or benefits gained. Simple the Ideal and the social acceptance that same sex partnership is the same as opposite sex natural marriage. This is not a constitutional issue no one is denying their constitutional rights, just don’t use the word “marriage”. Besides its a mostly polytheistic tradition anyway.
I am exceedingly disappointed that someone with so little class and obviously no common sense or grace about him has the audacity to publicly make a mockery of himself, this poor employee, and our city by proxy. Seriously, it’s a basic principle of human psychology. Moral exclusion of a person by another person creates conflict, which begets hate. The whole act of recognizing that people for gay marriage are different than people that aren’t is the cause of hate, where in reality both of those people bleed the same blood. One’s beliefs are not sufficient grounds for public moral exclusion, and are most certainly not conducive towards finding common ground with your fellow man. And they will always divide and breed hostility.

Although very one sided he did bring up some great points on how America does have much bigger things to worry about (elephant in the living room) and if everyone put the same effort towards these bigger problems then Americans would see a lot faster change than going to the voting booths.
However the author just touched on a tiny piece of what America’s real problems are (I mean Health care and drought…. really that’s the best he could do?)
