In part three of the series no one asked for (part one: Wings; part two: Wilco), I suggest five songs from an act that will be featured at the three day (and one afternoon) music event The Great Cover Up, happening December 15-17 and benefiting the Tucson Artists and Musicians Healthcare Alliance. Today, I pick five Mariah Carey songs I'd like to hear on Friday the 16th.
1. "We Belong Together" (2005)
Classic.
2. "Emotions" (1991)
Mariah currently is tied with Elvis (behind the Beatles) for having the second most number one Billboard pop singles, so there's certainly a lot of really popular, highly recognizable material to choose from in her discography. I don't know exactly how well all of her early 90's stuff holds up, but "Emotions" is still a lot of fun.
3. "Fantasy (Bad Boy Remix)" featuring Ol' Dirty Bastard (1995)
He and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers.
4. "All I Want For Christmas Is You" (1994)
This is one of the best pop Christmas songs ever. This event is happening in December. Unless there's some sort of religious conflict for the band performing Mariah's songs, this should be on the set-list.
5. Some highlights from Mariah's most recent appearance on HSN (2011):
I'm not sure how exactly this would work, since there's no music involved, but this is some of the best work she's done in years.
