Songs! For you to enjoy! Rose's Pawn Shop! White Laces! Calvin Harris! Roxette?
Eric Swedlund
Rose's Pawn Shop, "Iesha"
Here's one for the Amusingly Mismatched Covers Hall of Fame: LA bluegrass combo Rose's Pawn Shop covering one of the early 90s strangest R&B hits: "Iesha" from the pre-adolescent Another Bad Creation. And yes, it's plenty creepy - but in a funny way.
Mel Mason
White Laces, "Hands In Mexico"
This pop-rock gem saved me from the sad-bastard slow jams I've been digging on all week, so I'm sharing it based solely on it's ability to change my mood. Plus, the video is a good reminder to keep your muse at arm's length.
Dan Gibson
Calvin Harris featuring Kelis, "Bounce"
I think there's some sort of a curse that's been put on Kelis that "Milkshake" is doomed to be her only hit in the US (last year's "Acapella" should have been one of the year's biggest pop hits, but noooooooo), but her collaboration with British dance-pop producer Calvin Harris is absolutely one of my favorite songs this year. This might not have been the greatest of weeks, but I'll try to turn the tide by cranking this song up and dancing in the living room with my kids. Things are looking up already.
Jordan Green
Roxette, "It Must Have Been Love"
This isn't an ironic pick or anything. I just absolutely love this song and I'm kind of surprised no one ever seems to cover it.
