Get Out Tucson to Calexico and the Joads

Hey, did you feel that? That was the desert heat and monsoon humidity making its subtle shift to our oh so subtle fall. That means when you take a shower in the early morning you have to turn on the hot water for the first time in months, and you don't sweat it out during midnight jogs in the neighborhood. In Tucson, it also means you have to start making some choices on what to do — tonight is one of those nights.

Let's start with Calexico: A Retrospective at Sacred Machine Museum, beginning at 7 p.m. at 245 E Congress St. There will be a special appearance from the band, but the focus is a photographic retrospective of the band and its influence on us and art and our home. I can obviously go on. You can also check out the incredible work of Daniel Martin Diaz — this is his space, after all.

If you plan to go out tonight you can do this next event and go back to Sacred Machine to get more of your Calexico on. The Grapes of Wrath is playing tonight at Cinema La Placita at 7:30 p.m. I love this movie, but a friend recently reminded me that Mr. Steinbeck's novel is even better. Still, isn't time you sat a bit to visit with Tom, Ma and Pa Joad? Yes, it know it is.

If you are able, bring a can of food to benefit the Community Food Bank's Hunger Action Month. The show is $3 per person, but includes popcorn.
