You Should Go See Mexicans With Guns

Club Congress' Thursday night dance party, Optimist Club, has always been a big deal, but the lineup of acts they're bringing to Tucson this summer is outstanding, from now until late August when Big Freedia returns to make the Old Pueblo bounce. Tonight's headliner is San Antonio's Mexicans With Guns, whose new album Ceremony reflects Ernest Gonzales' diverse musical interests. One track will sound like a great b-side from a 90's era Tricky album, the next a Latin electronic party anthem. I have no idea what his live show is like, but the guy's recorded material is creative, fun and often surprising, so I think it's fair to assume the music he'll perform will have most of the same qualities. At very least, Mexicans With Guns won't sound like anything else you'll hear in town for awhile.
