Meet Tucson "Storyteller" Jake Broido

Posted By on Mon, Apr 4, 2011 at 2:45 PM

Thanks to a tip from a Tucson Weekly staffer, I was introduced to Tucson musician/rapper/singer/etc. Jake Broido's music today, which has been an interesting mixed bag. Clearly, he has a lot of ambition as he sets off to tour with YouTube pop star Dave Days (who will be in Tucson for the DigiTour stop at Spring Club Crawl April 16th) and a substantial amount of musical talent, considering he plays nearly everything on his mixtape "White Girls Are Crazy". But then he starts rapping. Not that he's a terrible rapper, but his style is largely a bad photocopy of the hashtag rap popularized by Drake over the last few years mixed with the frat guy party music of 3OH3! At least he has the guts to say what we're all thinking, with the title of his track, "White Girls Are Crazy".

Best of luck in the music game, Jake. My (unasked for) suggestion: stick to the Owl City-ish synth pop.
