How could we miss the March 9 release of the 2011 Arizona Piglet Book from the Goldwater Institute, which "exposes 147 pork projects, bad ideas and misuses of power that have wasted over $1.2 billion."

And since this is the Goldwater Institute, while an interesting read, it's the same old story: arts, education and community infrastructure funding are bad. Cuts are good.

However, it was super-nice they gave a mention to the our beloved cinema palace, the Loft, for its screening of dirty movies. I'll remind my son the next time we go there to see good stuff like The Secret of Kells, and yes, we happen to be the kind of family that sings along to "Sweet Transvestite." (We could be a poster family for the campaign to create Baja Arizona.)

I don't know about you, but the dirty-movie mention in the Piglet Book makes me proud. Congratulations, Loft, I can't think of another Tucson institution deserving of such Goldwater accolades:

The Loft Cinema in Tucson received $16,632 in spite of its penchant for showing controversial, provocative and, occasionally, downright raunchy films.

The Loft celebrated Christmas with their “XXX-Mas” version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The interactive movie experience featured a cast of live actors roaming the audience dressed as Santa Claus, sexy elves, and various “sweet transvestites” doing pelvic thrusts and trying to free moviegoers of their clothing.
