Giffords Improving, Told of the Shooting

Posted By on Fri, Mar 11, 2011 at 10:00 AM

Good news from today's press conference at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where Gabrielle Giffords has progressed from mouthing words to speaking sentences. Also, the doctors described the removal of her breathing tube as a "fist-pump" moment, signaling a significant moment in her recovery. Dr. Dong Kim addressed the recent story that Giffords would be able to attend the launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor in April, saying that it was still possible, but that it is still too early to say definitively, but that they are "planning" towards that possibility. The press conference also revealed that Giffords has been told of the shooting as a cause of her condition, but not the details of the event, by both Mark Kelly and the doctors at TIRR, but that she has no memory of that day.
