According to Arizona Republic columnist E.J. Montini, Kirk Adams, Arizona's speaker of the House, doesn't like the "death panel" [hrase
Kirk Adams, Arizona's Speaker of the House, is a thoughtful, serious legislator and a loving husband and father. So why, he wondered, do I keep saying that politicians like him, along with Gov. Jan Brewer, are part of a “death panel?”I did so again just last week, writing that state lawmakers could honor the victims of the Tucson shooting rampage by restoring the funds they cut from a transplant program and saving the lives of more than 90 fellow citizens whom they'd otherwise condemned to death.
“It's a horrible situation,” Adams said, referring to cuts in transplant surgeries that had been covered by the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. “I don't even know what adjective that adequately describes it. Heart wrenching maybe comes closest to describing the situation these people are in, and the kind of decisions legislature is required to make.”
