If Comedy Central misses a day of making fun of Arizona, Keith Olbermann usually steps in.
The latest was a good poke at former Vice President Dan Quayle's son, who is running in the state's 3rd Congressional District primary. Mailers show 33-year-old Ben Quayle with a couple of girls over this statement: "Tiffany and I live in this district and we are going to raise our family here."
Only problem: Ben doesn't have children, but according to the Arizona Capitol Times story here, he and his wife do have a dog.
“I think you guys have got a lot of time on your hands,” said Quayle campaign spokesman Damon Moley. “They’re just terribly cute kids.”The girls, he said, are relatives of a staff member and happened to be at a campaign event. Besides, images of kids and family are often used in campaign ads as a sort of short-hand way to illustrate pro-family and pro-life stances, Moley said.
Correction: Evidently, the Arizona Capitol Times was wrong. Those are actually his nieces according to the Phoenix New Times right here.
