Paton Names Pima County Democratic Boss "Volunteer of the Day"

Republican Jonathan Paton, who is one of four GOP candidates pushing for the chance to take on Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, is naming Pima County Democratic Chairman Jeff Rogers his "volunteer of the day."

Rogers sent out a press release criticizing Diamondbacks owner Ken Kendrick for allowing Paton to have a fundraiser at Chase Field, given that Paton is a big supporter of SB 1070, Arizona's new immigration law. The Major League Baseball Players Union has been critical of the law and there are concerns that Major League Baseball may pull the 2011 All-Star Game from Phoenix.

Paton now credits Rogers with helping to sell tickets to the fundraiser:

In an effort to recognize outstanding volunteers who are helping in every way they can to strengthen our movement to defeat Gabrielle Giffords, Jonathan Paton is spotlighting Jeff Rogers today.

Rogers, chairman of the Pima County Democratic Party, is single-handedly responsible for a surge in attendance for Paton's May 20 fundraiser at Chase Field.

Ever since Rogers started calling the press yesterday to announce that he wouldn't be using his Diamondbacks' season tickets because Paton was renting space for a fundraiser there, requests for

tickets to Paton's event have surged. The campaign will now be renting out an additional space to accommodate the up-tick, putting this event on-track to be Paton's most successful so far.

And who's to thank for all this: Jeff Rogers.

"Jeff Rogers' has managed to do in one day what my so-called expert staff couldn't do," Paton said Tuesday. "He got my event in the news and has generated tremendous interest. He's literally generated thousands of dollars for my campaign. I thank him."

Paton encourages all his volunteers to support the Diamondbacks.
