A Foodie's Guide to the Tucson Festival of Books

Posted By on Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 1:56 PM

There are a bunch of noteworthy food-themed happenings taking place at the Tucson Festival of Books this weekend. They actually have a whole stage dedicated solely to culinary demonstrations, most of which take place Saturday, and presentations about food, most of which take place Sunday. You'll find a schedule below.

Saturday’s cooking demonstrations include:

Marcela Valladolid’s (whose new Food Network show debuted a few months back) demonstration “Fresh Mexico: Contemporary Cooking From South of the Border” takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Scott Uehlein, corporate chef for Canyon Ranch, presents “Healthy Cooking the Canyon Ranch Way” from 1 to 2 p.m.

Janos Wilder, of Janos and J-BAR fame, prepares a Mexican dish from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Barry Infuso wraps up the day with his presentation “Cooking with Native Seeds/SEARCH” from 4 to 5 p.m.

Sunday’s food-themed presentations include:

Food historian Andrew Smith presents “Eating History: Thirty Turning Points in the Making of American Cuisine” from 10 to 11 a.m.

Gary Nabhan and Maribel Alvarez present “Exploring Foodways of the Transborder Southwest” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Deborah Madison and Patrick McFarlin present “The Glorious Highs and Oh-So Lows of Eating Alone” from 1 to 2 p.m.

Zoe Francois and Jeff Hertzberg present “Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day” from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

And Meredith Dreiss and Sharon Edgar Greenhill present “Chocolate: Pathway to the Gods” from 4 to 5 p.m.

It sounds like there will be some good eats there, too.
