The Pima County Democratic Party's Executive Committee is meeting today to decide what to do about attorney Bill Risner's ongoing representation of the party in the election lawsuits against Pima County.

With Attorney General Terry Goddard wrapping up his investigation and declaring that the RTA election was not rigged, some Democrats see an opportunity to declare victory—i.e., acknowledge that they uncovered security weaknesses inside Pima County that have been resolved—and move on. Risner wants to continue pushing Goddard for a forensic examination of the ballots to ensure that somebody within the county didn't do a big switcheroo, replacing the real ballots with some phony ones so that Goddard's count would come out right.

It appears to us that some Democrats have come to the conclusion that having a group of people working under the aegis of the Democratic Party and attacking a likely gubernatorial nominee—along with a lot of other elected Democrats—might not be the wisest political strategy.
