Iskash*taa: An Invitation to Community is one of five domestic videos to be shown at the White House Faith-based and Community Initiatives Innovations in Effective Compassion Conference on Thursday, June 26, in Wash., D.C. The film received an honorable mention in the "Portraits of Compassion" video contest.

Barbara Eiswerth, founder and coordinator of Iskash*taa will travel to the conference with two Tucsonan refugees from Somalia.

Iskash*taa is a grassroots organization that helps refugees rebuild their lives in the United States. The organization offers a variety of programs that help refugees use their knowledge and skills from their country of origin. Volunteers and refugees also work together to identify and harvest 30,000 pounds of fruit and vegetables from backyards and farms in Tucson and redistribute the produce to refugee homes and other organizations helping local families.
