Green Light

Tedski over at Rum, Romanism and Rebellion was the first blogger today to break the news that John Kromko, the wily ex-state lawmaker, had signed up to be a write-in candidate for the Green Party nomination for mayor of Tucson.

There's already a Green Party candidate, Dave Croteau, who went to the trouble of gathering signatures for his run. (And he's already picked up three endorsements, according to his Web page, for his "movement for Tucson's future!"). But that movement may just be out of the race altogether; there's talk that Crouteau is willing to step aside to let Kromko into the driver's seat.

With early voting starting next week, ballots are already getting printed, so we doubt that Croteau could get his name off the ballot--which means he could outpoll Kromko, who needs to get 111 write-in votes to qualify for the general election ballot, according to City Hall.

If Croteau does win, can he then step aside and allow the Greens to fill the vacancy with Kromko? Our sources in the Clerk's Office are still researching that question for us. For some reason, it's never come up before. Go figure.
