The Tucson Weekly Web site is not banned in China. At least that's according to the Great FireWall of China, one of myriad tools that spring up all over the Web to do nifty things.

The link that proposes to show what TW looks like on the Chinese Web does not, however, appear to be working. Even after turning off the pop-up blocker.

So, Jimmy, if you're checking in on the blog, "祝賀!"

Democrat Daniel Patterson, the enviro who is considering a run against Republican Mayor Bob Walkup this November, has put up a Web site for his proto-campaign. So far, it's mostly links back to his blog. Patterson says he'll make up his mind in the next few weeks.

It's also his 36th birthday. Many happy returns, live long and prosper, and all that jazz.

I drive by In-n-Out a lot on Broadway/El Con Mall and it looks finished.

I just called corporate headquarters and she very hesitantly said that April 19 was going to be the opening date.

The New York Times is reporting that Arizona's beloved sky islands are in trouble.

The gang at the Loft Cinema continue to keep it real, cinema-wise. This Tuesday, March 27, we'll have the Big Reveal of the winners of the 48-Hour Shootout, a contest for local filmmakers to create a short picture show in just two days. As one of the judges for the contest, I can tell you that some of the nine films are really good, especially given the time constraint.

Incidentally, they all had to include at least one marshmallow peep.

On Feb. 15, the Tucson Weekly ran a photo essay by Debbie Nathan regarding Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera, who was shot and killed in January by Border Patrol agents.

Well, the Sierra Vista Herald—which, like the Weekly, is owned by Wick Communications—is reporting that there are some serious inconsistencies in the stories being told about the shooting. Check out that story here.

OK, so the Battlestar Galactica season 3 finale: Meh. No, not even meh. Ugh.

First, Baltar's trial was full of squandered potential. Wasn't Caprica supposed to testify? Why did the lawyer formally known as Apollo take the stand instead of delivering his speech in a closing argument? What was the point of having Gaeta perjure himself? Seriously: The entire thing was bungled.

Second: The big reveal of the final five = Lame! And not so much making sense, tho it could be a big fake-out, I guess. I hope.

I love this show sooooo much. But the finale of S1 ("Holy Gods! Boomer did what to Adama?!") and S2 ("Holy Gods! That Baltar administration isn't going to work out so well!") were so much better.

Well, at least The Shield is back in a few weeks.

Readers with good memories may recall this 2004 Pick of the Week, penned by yours truly, that focused on a very bad woman named Marjorie Hagen. (It was our Pick because an author was in town promoting a book about Hagen, and at the time, Hagen was in her final days of incarceration.)

Well, Hagen's in trouble again, according to the Tucson Citizen. I am just glad she hasn't killed anybody, at least that we know of.
