‘Les Misérables’

Cameron Mackintosh presents the critically acclaimed musical “Les Misérables” by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg. The production of the Tony award-winning show will run from Tuesday, Sept. 9 to Sunday, Sept. 14. The story of “Les Misérables” is set against the backdrop of 19th-century France. It explores the pains and struggles associated with unrequited love and broken dreams, while highlighting the tenacity and determination of the unyielding human spirit.

Día de los Muertos Exhibit

Tohono Chul Botanical Gardens will be presenting its Dia de los Muertos Exhibit starting in late August through early November. The display will feature pieces from artists that reflect both traditional and contemporary celebrations of the holiday that have become ingrained in Tucson’s history and cultural heritage. On Aug. 26 and Aug. 28, the exhibit was accompanied by a Curator Talk with director of arts James Schaub.

Signs of Community

Jorge Ruiz is a former architect based in Tucson who now dedicates his time to creating miniatures. His artwork focuses on depicting the sights of his hometown in Nogales — old-fashioned buildings and structures. “Signs of Community” is Ruiz’ first museum exhibition.

Sonoran Restaurant Week

Sonoran Restaurant Week — presented by Visit Tucson — is a 10-day celebration of Southern Arizona Dining. Various locally owned and operated restaurants in Tucson will be participating in the seventh annual culinary event. The eateries will be showcasing their menus for patrons to enjoy, and learn about the heritage and ethics of the restaurant and food industry in the city.

‘She’s Out of Her Rind’

Live Theatre Workshop presents this drag show on Saturday Sept. 13. The hostess, Melon, and her crew of entertainers will perform live music, dances, comedy and burlesque. Patrons who would like beer or wine must bring their own and also have the option to tip the performers.

Music in the Mountains 

SEPT. 6 AND OCT. 4

On Saturday, Sept. 6, and Saturday, Oct. 4, the Music in the Mountains concert series brings various live music performances of an array of genres to the outdoors. Folk indie group Treehouse Fire will perform on the first concert evening, and Austin Ownes will perform in October. The concert is included with park admission, but patrons should bring their own chairs.

Paper Flower Making Workshop

In honor of Pascua Yaqui Recognition Day, the Friends of Tucson’s Birthplace: Mission Gardens is hosting a paper flower making workshop. The holiday — celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 18 — commemorates the tribe’s federal recognition in 1978 and celebrates its cultural displays, music, food and art. Patrons of all ages are invited to learn how to make paper flower decorations by hand. .

Silent Sky

Live Theatre Workshop presents Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson through mid October. The show explores the life and work of groundbreaking astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, credited with illuminating the cosmos and changing the course of science. Through the comedic and heartfelt retelling of Leavitt’s story, the play highlights the power of perseverance and untold stories of women in STEMM.

Chastity Brown

SEPT. 18

Chastity Brown is an Americana-soul artist, who is also inspired by folk and blues. Brown will perform at Rialto Theatre’s 191 Toole on Thursday, Sept. 18. Her setlist includes songs from her album titled “Sing to the Walls,” including the titular track “Sing to the Walls,” “Wonderment,” “Golden” and “Like the Sun.”

El Tour Loop de Loop

El Tour Loop de Loop is a cycling event around the Chuck Huckleberry Loop with an after party. Cyclists have the opportunity to meet with various nonprofit partners and sponsors. After the ride has concluded, the team will host an after party at Rillito Park Racetrack, from 10 a.m. to Noon. The celebration will feature live music, food, drinks and various prizes for a raffle.
