  1. the neo-cons, libertarian conservatives wealthy free trade donor class. establishment and inteligencia made a pact with social conservatives and white populists for their votes. the establishment thought their donor class money could buy them presidential nominations. worked till 2016. today 90% of gop supports trump. republican party now populist not libertarian free trade conservatism. rip.

  2. And with the Democratic Party turning towards Socialism and Marxism, is it possible to forge a center group that could win elections? We must start somewhere.

  3. “…turning towards Socialism and Marxism.” This trope is so played out and pathetic, especially when the commenter has no idea what either of those is and claims to a former Democrat.

Especially as he wonders where his parents’ Social Security checks come from *and* doesn’t realize the government runs healthcare for veterans in a little operation called the VA. There’s your socialism, hunny.

  4. I remember the democratic party of the 50’s and 60’s. Todays party is trying to move back to the left they were back then. Problem is, the republican party moved so far to the right that 35-40% of todays democrats are 50’s-60’s republican (blue dog democrats). What we see in the US congress today as republicans , all to the right of Barry Goldwater, are what we called back then the radical right and the lunatic fringe. Anti-government, anti-science, and spouting conspiracy theories you couldn’t get Maxwell Smart to believe. Sad.

  5. I’m sorry but if Social Security is not socialism, let’s call it what it really is. It is an Ponzi scheme and a Congressional slush fund that they have robbed for years. And reform is talked about less than immigration reform. Remember that reform in SS language means reduction. Reduced payments and increased age qualifiers. All while the government spends more on it’s own expansion.

Americans need to wake up to the truth.
