Daniel_Hernandez_Hate_Flyer.jpg

Details about this flyer and another complaining about gun control are sketchy at this point, but according to a slew of lefty political blogs including RightWingWatch, someone seeking to recall Daniel Hernandez from the Sunnyside School Board is stooping to depressingly homophobic lows:

The story behind the recall is the kind of byzantine saga found only in local politics. Four of the five members of the Sunnyside Unified School District, which includes parts of Tucson and surrounding areas, are now facing recall petitions — two members who faced recall for their support of an embattled schools superintendent turned around and filed recall petitions on two members, including Hernandez, who opposed the superintendent.

But the tactics being used against Hernandez are clear as day. A source in the district sends us two flyers that Hernandez’s opponents are reportedly handing out to parents dropping their children off at schools in the district. Right Wing Watch repeatedly tried to contact Marcos Castro, the manager of the effort to recall Hernandez and brother in law of school board president Louie Gonzalez, to discover whether the flyers came from his campaign, but Castro refused to take our calls.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. No “rightwing” group is involved, it’s the people supporting Izquierdo doing this garbage. No conservative group or person in the Sunnyside area is involved with this garbage. What a false flag bs campaign.

  2. Daniel Hernandez is one of the best speakers I’ve ever heard. His book (They Call Me a Hero: A Memoir of My Youth) tells a wonderful story of a young man who should become Arizona’s governor, when he is old enough to run for that office. The Sunnyside School District is fortunate to have Mr. Hernandez on the Board, and I hope the recall does NOT work.

  3. Jimaz: To be fair, I never said the people who made the flyer were right-wing. That just happens to be the name of the website that seemingly broke the story.

  4. Glad to know that there are still some Right Wing Homophobic Wackos out there..

    Why is that anyway…?

They seem to have more hate than acceptance or tolerance…

  5. “PEOPLE” aren’t terrible, Republican Christians and their religious based bigotry are “Terrible.”

  6. Bob, please do not lump all “Republican Christians” in this because I am a Republican Christian and I do not agree with this type of tactic. This type of personal attack does not belong in any kind of politics and whoever is passing this around needs to be shut down or post a retraction.apology statement of some sort.

  7. Daniel Hernandez is WAY more of a real man than any man who would believe this horseshit; he has already proven his worthiness, unlike any fool who would be convinced by this garbage. This bigoted campaign is pathetic and those of us who are real men are sickened by it. The Right Wing Watch organization comes across as moronic at the very least.

  8. We need someone who will support Sports, with a capital S? Yes, clearly the author of this flier is truly invested in educating children.
