It turns out Grill didn’t make it to their planned Tuesday night closing, running out of food last night and closing, seemingly permanently.
Tucson Weekly contributor Mel Mason was there for the end of the Red Room, and allowed us to share her photos of the night.
From their Facebook page:
Yes, it’s true. Grill is now officially closed for eternity. I know we told you we would be open for another day, but you cleaned us out. The food is gone and our sanity was lost long ago. We appreciate your loyalty over the years, and while we know you will all soon move on, we hope you never find anything more comforting than the hate and tots we brought to you for the past twelve years. Thank you to everyone who came out to say goodbye, and a special thank you to all the former employees who pitched in and helped us these past two days. So long, Tucson.

Does anybody know why it closed? Lack of funds I’m thinking but what caused the “lack?”
Grill SUCKED! To all those whining about not having a late night place to eat – SHOT IN THE DARK is still open. The food and service has always been better there anyway.
The Red Room was a great little music venue which I will miss very much. Sadly, it’s fate was tied to the worst diner in town. The Grill’s menu was all over the place and overpriced and the service was consistently terrible. You can’t be a restaurant open for lunch and not have a reliable weekday lunch crowd. And you can’t have a reliable weekday lunch crowd when you can’t get customers in and out in less than 40 minutes. Hopefully, the next owners realize that being locally-owned and “iconic” isn’t enough to overcome a lack of value and customer service.
I haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but there is still options like Bacon and Creggs (spelling? It’s next to Magpies), Brooklyn’s, Shot in the Dark, and of course, places like Ihop and Denny’s.
gahhh enough already. I mourn the red room it sounds like they were attached to the anchor that was grill whose food wasn’t that good to begin with. I can freakin’ put tater tots in the oven.
My Grill experience included a huge cockroach running across the table, and spying more cockroaches hanging out in the walls, so I have to say, I never went back.
