As the Senate’s immigration-reform bill stalls in the House (more on that in this week’s print edition), Talking Points Memo reports that House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor are speaking up in favor of some kind of DREAM Act legislation:
House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) on Wednesday backed the principles of the DREAM Act, which provides a path to citizenship to those who were brought to the United States illegally as children.
“This is about basic fairness,” he told reporters. “These children were brought here by no accord of their own, and frankly they’re in a very difficult position. And I think many of our members believe that this issue needs to be address.”
“It’s an issue of decency, of compassion,” said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA). “Where else would these kids go?”
It’s one thing to say a few sympathetic lines and another to actually craft legislation. We’ll see how far a bill actually gets.

If this Senate bill passes AS-IS, millions of legitimate nationals will be able to seek work, condemning millions of Americans still seeking a job, to even longer lines at the employment offices. Under another Obama’s Executive Orders, although the promise has declared no benefits–the laws will be engineered so as not stifle the free flow of food stamps and emergency public assistance. E-Verify the main contender for business enforcements that is already used in thousands of businesses on a voluntary basis, is unlikely to be fully functional for 18 months? Why not? The fence will be overlooked as in 1986, the entry and exit tracking system and with no implementation of a fair share of ICE recruitment between the U.S. Border Patrol and the interior audit investigation. The United States business community will still be free to hire unauthorized labor.
The Senate bill is placing too much emphasis on border enforcement by recruiting 20.000 new officers, when half should be spread within the country, to penalize business owners who believe they are above the law. A stint in jail would quickly change their minds?

Already rescinded in Mexico and other countries this law allows the children of illegal aliens claim citizenship almost immediately. Only truly meant for the children of emancipated slaves and of succession after the Civil War and should only be given to citizen children. The dollars are in the hundreds of billions in lucrative payments that supplement the parent’s low incomes. Another point of interest is that the U.S. Government could save hundreds of billions of more dollars in court costs and other advantages, if every U.S. citizen was issued a biometric ID Social Security card. It could not only be used to be hired for work, excluding unauthorized labor, but two other problems could be alleviated. It would stop almost instantly voter fraud, and exact a measure of security when applying for credit. The identifiers such as a thumb print and retinal eye scan would be a great deterrent against criminal activities.
