No definitive word on whether he also hates kittens and babies, but if you’re a fan of progressive ideals, you might want to print a photo of Paul D. Clement out for your dartboard/voodoo doll. Note: the Tucson Weekly does not actually advocate the use of voodoo dolls:

It would be hard for any lawyer to fathom a more riveting caseload than the one Paul D. Clement carried during his seven years in President George W. Bush’s Justice Department.

As solicitor general for three years and deputy solicitor for four, Mr. Clement appeared before the Supreme Court 49 times, defended the administration’s detention of terrorism suspects, fought off challenges to the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law and validated the prosecution of medical marijuana growers in a landmark commerce case.

But if possible, the docket that Mr. Clement has compiled in the private sector as one of Washington’s leading appellate litigators may situate him even closer to the center of national discourse.

At the moment, he is defending both Arizona’s tough new law against illegal immigration and Congress’s prohibition against federal recognition of same-sex marriages. And if, as expected, the Supreme Court soon announces that it will hear a challenge to last year’s health care law, it seems increasingly likely that it will be Mr. Clement who argues, in the thick of the 2012 campaign, that President Obama’s signature domestic achievement is unconstitutional.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. Yes, the guy’s a conservative, but he’s also one of the best appellate lawyers in the land. If you actually bother to read to the end of the article, you see that he has also (very occasionally) represented people on the non-conservative end of the spectrum. Back in the day when I was a lawyer, I represented people I very much did not agree with, and I did so to the best of my ability. (I was generally appointed, but that didn’t mean I couldn’t turn down the case.) Does he agree with most of the people he’s representing? Probably so, but he’s also doing his job. Do you really believe that only the side of Morality and Virtue (as you define it) should be adequately represented? Are only the liberal causes I favor to have good lawyers? No, that’s not how our system works or should work. If the dude’s an asshole, hate him for that, but by most accounts Paul Clement is a decent guy who just believes different things than we do. And is far, far better at representing his clients than most lawyers.

  2. The “kittens and babies” line spoke volumes. Why do liberals insist they are the good guys? You’re not. You think you represent tolerance (this article proves quite the contrary). You represent morale decay, in the form of narcissism. You represent the tolerance of evil in the guise of non-judgmentalism
Don’t worry though, you’ll win in the end. I hope you look forward to a world rife with situational ethics, tolerance of a host of behaviors now considered fringe or outright taboo and outspoken persecution of anyone with a traditional moral plumb. You’ll get your wish and end up living behind locked doors in fear of your “freed” secular society. stunned by the behavior of following generations who will see you as ‘CONSERVATIVE”.

  3. Very good points by nobody important. I like to look at these articles to remind myself just how out of touch with reality and the normal person the Tucson Weekly is. They never let me down…lol

No wonder this paper has to be given away. I knew I would like this guy just from the headline. Tucson Weekly should just stick to the perverted personals and skip the unresearched biased reporting.

  4. Politics is worse than gang banging. At least drive-by shootings only affect a few people.

  5. Never have and never will, with the exception of “George W. was a good president” they seem to tell that joke all the time.

  6. With all the resources the Ob*munists and their minions have to fight AZ with, I’m glad we have Clements around.
