Hats off to NYC’s Carmel High School, where two boys were recently voted as “cutest couple” of their senior class.
The news went viral after a fellow classmate wrote about the yearbook status on her Tumblr, just five days ago.
“Two of my best friends won Cutest Couple of our senior class,” she wrote. “First time in my school history a same sex couple has even been able to run for this category, not to mention winning it. So proud of them, and my school.”
Since then, the photo has received national attention in The Washington Post, ESPN and USA Today.
The attention has also prompted the boys—Dylan Meehan and Brad Taylor—to release a statement to The Huffington Post:
“This whole thing has been a bit surreal for us because we have been raised to believe that love is love. We never realized that our happiness and openness would inspire so many individuals. The support we have received from our family, friends, and even strangers has led us to believe that our affection for each other is normal … When we started dating a year [ago], the thought of a photo of us traveling throughout the world would be a bit frightening, but now we are proud to be part of the LGBT community.”
It’s not so much the boys winning the cutest couple award that excites me so much, but the fact that they are getting overwhelming attention does. While change is always slow, this shows that my generation is taking the right steps.
This, ladies and gents, is called progress.

NEWSFLASH…..these two cute gays (and no others),are living their lives to please you or anyone else ! They are simply living their lives according to their own natural prescription ! Where do gays “come from” some ignorant homophobes asked on this blog ? Heterosexuals create them ! The parents of these kids are surely straight, as are 99% of all other gay men and lesbians on Earth !It is a natural fact of life and a part of human sexuality (as it is also in the animal kingdom.) I do not need some religious “JERK” preaching trash about the Bible to me in an attempt to disgrace gays and halt their unions. How does keeping them apart help you or society at large in any way ?These are just evil hate-mongers that have their own “issues” of sexuality and “masculinity” !A true ally to the GLBT Community is a straight friend (male or female) that is comfortable enough in their own sexual identity not to perceive gays as a threat and want them to secure full equality as consenting adults and tax paying citizens….that’s it !
The world isn’t changing….it already has ! These are two great young men that happen to be gay ! Life in the closet is surely a thing of the past, and it’s great ! Why would any one with half a brain disapprove or try to keep them apart? Strong, solid and loving relationships, both heterosexual and homosexual only strengthen society and the people involved. Sadly, those brainless and rotten to the cure “drunk on religion” fanatics will have a problem with it. They thrive on hate ! Well, it’s too bad…gays and lesbians are consenting adults and tax paying citizens and deserve the same rights and respect as the rest of us !
Now the lousy “Catholic League” wants to turn back the clock and reverse all the progress society has made with LGBT issues. Then we wonder why there is a rise in disturbing anti-gay violence and even murder in N.Y.C. of late ? These vile bigots have no tolerance, no absolutely nothing about human sexuality, thrive on hate and are dangerous jerks ! Cardinal Dolan is to blame ! This vile mick addressed the issue for a lousy 19 seconds and in a very disattached and insincere way !Then the World wonders why those mentally disturbed and insecure thugs think going around attacking gays is justified…..they perceive the Church and God as on their side…that’s why !
I for one find it repulsive ! I am a good Christian and devout Catholic and go to church almost everyday. This is not acceptable and goes against GOD’s word ! Jesus is my savior and I talk to him daily. His word strictly forbids homosexual activity of any kind, as it is evil, lustful, wicked, perverse and a mortal sin ! I carry my Bible with me everywhere I go,and am well versed in the gospel. I know my place in heaven is promised because Jesus told me so.I live my life according to scripture and do not rely on man, but rather the Lord to get me through life’s hurdles. I believe the Bible literally-word for word ! In the Good-Book it states homosexuality is Abomination, and those guilty of it must be stoned to death !This is God’s word, not mine. This cannot ever be altered to conform to the twisted new moral standards of the modern world. Therefore, I do believe practicing sodomites are a danger and a threat to society at large and should receive the death penalty if they fail to repent, convert and become celibate in the eyes of the Almighty Lord. It is written in stone and must be followed.That is it…end of story !
WOW !If any of these two boys were my son, I would be very proud of them ! Smart, kind, and decent and in a loving, stable relationship. One day I hope they adopt or have biological children, so they can give a good loving home to them !The family and community support they get means it all. All that lousy intolerance, hate, scorn and judgment has ruined so many lives in the past. Can anyone see this ? Let people live their lives according to their own prescription, and they will flourish ! The days of guilt, fear and shame for gay people is slowly disappearing ! This is for the better of society at large. Anyone opposed to it,I ask; if one of these young men were your son, would you want their happiness or see them miserable and perhaps suicidal ? If you answered “yes” to the second, you are a rotten, evil person and the devil’s creation (and probably religious, as well.)You can’t turn a gay person straight…any more readily than you can make a straight one gay. This is tantamount to attempting to make your small dog become a cat…..HELLO ? Why all this “heterocentrist” attitude,anyhow ? Aren’t there enough straight people in the world ?……homosexuality is an intrinsic part of our human sexuality….always has been and always will be !
Stupid homophobes. If you don’t agree with this school’s decision, guess what? WE DON’T CARE. If you don’t have anything positive to say then keep your opinions to yourself. Stop spreading negativity and start spreading love. We are all human and we all deserve respect. You’re allowed to have your beliefs but you must understand that not everyone lives their lives by the same beliefs you do. Stop forcing your opinions onto others.
