In honor of the Tucson Festival of Books, famed and distinguished intellectual Noam Chomsky will be making an appearance at UA’s Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd., on Sunday, March 15 from 4 to 5 p.m. (doors open at 3). The dean of UA’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences will introduce the renowned linguist and political activist. A correspondent at The Nation, to which Chomsky is a long-time contributor, will speak about Chomsky’s latest book “Masters of Mankind: Essays and Lectures from 1969-2013.” Chomsky himself will answer questions that people can submit and vote online for ahead of time. If his last Tucson appearance is any indicator, tickets will be gone very quickly. The box office will begin handing out the free tickets at Noon on the day of the event, limited to four per person. I highly recommend lining up in advance. For those who can’t snag any, the UA will have rooms set up for overflow where Chomsky’s conversation will be streamed live. The event’s Facebook page has more information..

This intellectual is convinced of america”s as an evil state, very much like those on the left that have a voice via Obama,s Admn. He believes that our decline on the world stage under Obama/Clinton / Kerry is a good thing. To appease our adversaries is a mission of his philosophy even as it will inevitably end in our destruction and that of our ally Israel and the Jewish people, who his ideas feel bring on the resurgence of anti- semitism. He should not be lauded…
^ You’re insane.
I often wonder, is “intellectual” a self-declared title, sort of like, “activist?”
^ Answering my own question, apparently, yes.
I went to hear this lunatic and felt rather put upon as the adoring and similarly lunatic audience disparaged my beliefs with applause and nodding heads.
It was interesting to hear for example, that despite, (by his own admission) 90% of Ukrainians voting in favor of joining NATO, he felt it was incumbent upon the west to insure that they became a “neutral” state so as to not offend the Russians, who wish to crush Ukraine.
On the other hand, he simultaneously believes that we should leave Iran alone to pursue a nuclear bomb making program.
So according to this great intellect we should: 1) force a sovereign state to become “neutral” all the while: 2) allowing a rouge, anti-west government, with a declared intent to annihilate another sovereign state, to develop nuclear weapons to bring about that outcome.
Such is the “clarity” of thinking of the “intellectual” mind. I’m glad that I’m just an average Joe without such critical thinking skills.
