PHOENIX – Arizona elections officials disputed President Donald Trump’s latest attacks on mail-in voting, which he leveled Tuesday at a Students for Trump rally in north central Phoenix.

Because of voting by mail, Trump told the crowd, the November election would be the “most corrupt election in the history of our country.”

“And there is tremendous evidence of fraud whenever you have mail-in ballots,” Trump said, repeating unfounded claims widely debunked by media outlets. “And frankly, if we are really going to protect our elections – and some people don’t want to hear this – we must have voter ID.”

Trump, a Florida resident who has voted by mail, went on to say that mail carriers could be robbed of ballots, which then could be duplicated by foreign or domestic enemies, according to The New York Times. The security concerns – along with other claims Trump has made about mail-in voting – are false, according to numerous outlets, including NPR, CNN and NBC.

Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs also disagreed that mail-in ballots aren’t safe.

“He’s flat out wrong,” Hobbs said of the president’s claims. “We have a long track record of successful and secure voting by mail in Arizona. Ballots are tracked when they leave the county recorder’s office to go to voters, and voters can find out the status of their ballots once they return it. So there’s a lot of safeguards in place.”

About 80% of Arizona voters receive ballots in the mail, according to the Citizens Clean Elections Commission.

Earlier this year, Hobbs asked legislators to allow Arizona’s 15 counties to conduct elections entirely by mail to encourage voters to continue social-distancing precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to an article in The Arizona Republic. Lawmakers did not move the idea forward.

Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes also dismissed the presidents’ claims.

“The only ballots we count are the ones where we can verify that there is a good solid signature – or in cases of a mismatch, where we’ve successfully contacted the voter to verify that they submitted a ballot,” he said. “So it’s a very, very secure system, frankly. Signature verification and all of these steps are more secure than other methods of voting that are employed, so we’re confident that this is a secure system.”

In Maricopa County, there also are new tabulation machines to speed up the process of counting those ballots.

So how are the mail-in ballots checked? Watch this video to see how it’s done in Maricopa County.

  1. Well I guess now we can’t say there is no evidence of fraud. were these guys all from the same party?

  2. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays this president’s focus on doing whatever it takes to get re-elected — including spreading lies about mail-in ballots.

Never mind a global pandemic in which America is leading — and not in a good way — or a pending worldwide and domestic economic disaster that is looming on the horizon, or the fact that American troops and allies in Afghanistan are being assassinated for bounties paid by Russian intelligence operatives. Re-election is all that matters.

From now until the election, anything and everything this president does will be geared to securing re-election, and if he is not re-elected — “THE ELECTION WAS RIGGED!” will be his rallying cry, as he takes refuge behind the Resolute Desk, props up his M-60 machine gun on sandbags filled with Russian Rubles and dares anyone to enter and “MEET MY LITTLE HANDS!”

  3. mail in ballots have been used by the majority of az for many years. When mail in ballots favored republicans for many years NO PROBLEMA! Now that mail in ballots are starting to favor democrats now we have a problem with mail in ballot fraud. By the way the last two people convicted for voter fraud were both republicans voting twice in 2012 for romney and 2016 for trump. By the way they are forming a john brown gun club here in southern az and need your support.

  4. Illinois Election Officials are trying to explain why some homes received more than 10 ballots (all in different names) last month.

Does anybody remember Obama’s “walking around money” from 2008 and 2012? I guess they got tired of funding them and gave them votes to sell instead.

“Get your crack, get your votes…step right up ” Fifty dollars each. I don’t care which party it is cheating will occur.

  5. Remember 2008’s “Vote From Home” scandal in Ohio, a battleground state? A bunch of out-of-state Obama supporters rented a house in Columbus & had mail-in-ballots sent there. The only reason they were caught was that one of the group stayed with family friends & had a ballot sent to their house. The family recognized possible fraud & questioned the house guest, who turned in his friends. Many had already voted. The slap-on-the-wrist style punishment (apologize & leave the state) was inappropriate for the felony they committed. We also never knew how many other house rentals received multiple ballots for their out-of-state renters. Vote fraudsters love mail-in ballots!

  6. I have found that google scrubs all vote fraud history from it’s searches. Why would they be doing that right now? many Americans don’t know what they don’t know. And the media does not help. It’s as if they want to destroy all history.

Does anybody remember that Iran offered a $1000 bounty on American Servicemen killed back in 2010? NBC reported it. And what did Obama do?

But why not try it again with the Russia “boogeyman?” It almost worked the last time until they found out Hillary paid them to hurt Trump’s election.

By the way how is Adam Schiff doing on his investigation?

  7. It’s not just Trump that thinks theirs a corrupt election.
Between 2012 and 2018, 28.3 million mail-in ballots remain unaccounted for, according to data from the federal Election Assistance Commission. The missing ballots amount to nearly one in five of all absentee ballots and ballots mailed to voters residing in states that do elections exclusively by mail.

States and local authorities simply have no idea what happened to these ballots since they were mailed – and the figure of 28 million missing ballots is likely even higher because some areas in the country, notably Chicago, did not respond to the federal agency’s survey questions. This figure does not include ballots that were spoiled, undesirable, or came back for any reason.

  8. Democrats only chance to winning an election is to cheat at the ballot box with duplicate votes. Too bad they abandoned decent police officers and American citizens to support the destructive communist takeover of BLM. Even blacks are complaining this is not about us as we have been hijacked by white punks on dope.
