The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund announces an endorsement of John McCain. That can’t help J.D. Hayworth’s insurgent campaign.
From the release:
The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing U.S. Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) in the August 24 Republican primary.
“John McCain has steadfastly voted against every gun and ammunition ban in Congress,” said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. “This along with his commitment to preserving our hunting heritage has earned him the NRA-PVF’s endorsement.”
Sen. McCain voted to end reckless lawsuits against gun manufacturers and to
prohibit gun confiscation from law-abiding Americans during states of emergency. He is leading the fight to restore self-defense rights in Washington, D.C. through his introduction of the Second Amendment Enforcement Act.
McCain signed the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the individual right to keep and bear arms in the historic Heller case. He also signed the congressional amicus brief stating that the Second Amendment applies to all Americans, no matter where they live, in the McDonald case currently before the Court.
Sen. McCain’s consistent opposition to the failed Clinton semi-auto ban, dating back to the original votes in 1993, has made him a friend to gun owners across the country. He continues to be a strong voice in fighting ongoing efforts by the United Nations to dismantle the Second Amendment.
Cox continued, “We ask all Arizona gun-owners, hunters and NRA members to vote for John McCain in the U.S. Senate republican primary on August 24th.”

What, no NRA endorsement yet for CD-8?
NRA has been pro neocon for quite some time now. Reps used to show up at the shooting clubs to encourage shooters to “vote for Bush”. Let’s see, under Bush, FEMA confiscated citizens’ guns at gunpoint after Katrina. If 2nd amendment activists noticed that a sheriff is selectively issuing conceal and carry permits to that particular sheriff’s cronies, the NRA tells the activists to “back off”, because that particular sheriff is a republican.
The NRA is not to be trusted, so it’s a suitable endorsement for a twit like McCain.
This is yet another example of the NRA sugar coating its support for an anti-gun politician or an anti-gun law. In 1986 the NRA pressed Ronald Regan to sign the Firearms Owner’s Protection Act despite the fact he intended to veto it because of the extremely anti-gun Hughes Amendment. Thirty Four years later American gun owners still feel the sting of that betrayal by the NRA.
If the NRA was truly a friend of Constitutional rights, they would drop their veneer of political correctness and openly campaign for the repeal of ALL GUN CONTROL LAWS – and expose the ultimate lie that controlling guns is the solution to violent crime, instead of crowing about so called successes, such as the increase of concealed carry permit issuing states. Case law has already established that requiring permits in order to allow citizens to excercise constitutional rights is UNCONSTITUTIONAL in itself !
This is just one more of NRA’s betrayals that drove me over to the “no compromise” Gun Owners of America and the Second Amendment Foundation. Sorry Wayne…
