Clint Eastwood’s latest creation, American Sniper, has gotten tons of attention. Critics and audiences either give it high praise or think it’s a lying piece of garbage that pisses on the definition of “hero.”

Well, our very own U.S. Sen. John McCain is a fan of the Oscar-nominated flick and is defending it left and right.

From a McCain press release:

“I congratulate Clint Eastwood and the entire cast and crew of American Sniper for an outstanding cinematic achievement honoring the life of a genuine American hero, Chris Kyle. This film depicts with subtlety and compassion those brave few who serve our nation in uniform, their experiences in the horror of war, the burdens they often bear upon returning home, and the untold sacrifices of their families. It is deeply regrettable that obsessive critics of U.S. foreign policy have sought to disparage this film and denigrate the memory of a noble American warrior. Fortunately, their pettiness has not stopped millions of Americans from seeing American Sniper, and hopefully in the process, gaining a greater appreciation for the service and sacrifice of America’s military service members and their families.”

I recently watched it, but never read the late Chris Kyle’s autobiography or knew much of him prior to seeing the movie trailer. That being said, I thought it was a good film. Not the most accurate, not the most educated in portraying Iraqis—but rather accurate in depiction of the darkness of war.

Have you seen it? What did you think?

  1. McCain’s opinion would not send me to see a movie. He needs to get back to work and leave Hollywood alone….THEN RETIRE.

  2. I saw the Movie 1st weekend crowds were waiting in line to get into the 70 foot screen new cinema theater. I enjoyed the movie as a Vietnam Vets Wife and member of a military family all my life. Army Ww2 Korea friend of our family and Vietnam my husband & his 2 brothers in the Marine Corps. Also Grandsons in the Air Force and Army now.. I grew up at the beginning of WW2 and lived through all those since then. What is going on now scares the bejesus out of me. Because we have such a disconnected President who seems to think ISIS Yemen and all those countries in turmoil are just a Bother…He is definitely out of touch and the younger generation cares even less. Living in their “Me” generation.
This Movie tells the truth about the Men & women who go to war and the families waiting in fear for them at home. Now in the field they have Skype e mail and bottled water and I bet great food . In Nam My Brother in law was in country the DMZ and food was K rations. My husband was in the Air wing. He came home to a public who spit on them cursed them and blamed them.. Not like todays Parades and Thanks….That still angers me but he handled it. My Dad was in WW1 he took care of the mules stateside as he was a Pa farmers/.coal miners son. whatever they did to protect us as Chris Kyle did it was important to me l to see it on the screen.
I didn’t see or care there was a fake baby missed that but this is a memorable movie by Clint Eastwood as was Iwo Jima and Letter Japanese troops to their wives. We saw both side of that war which to me was very informing. Yes War is Hell but the alternative is Worse. Living & surviving under a Dictatorship and what it does to a human being is unacceptable.
Lets hope we keep watch over the Democracy we have because it is vital and the Military people we send all over the World to protect us have our full support regardless of our feeling about War or peace. One can’t be maintained without the other it seems.
This movie is worth seeing a Hero is someone that fights for his/her country any way they can and under Orders.. There is no Pretty Fair or Easy War.. He’d answer for every Kill. . But not to any of us we cannot fairly judge what we know little about or if called could do!!!

God Bless the USA and all who gave all to keep us free And those still on watch!!

  3. The reality of the USAmerican war machine terrorizing the Planet is enough.

I sure don’t need to pi** away my hard earned money to see a propaganda film glorifying vicious cannon-fodder…

  4. Many citizens of adult age do not understand war, but terrorizing the planet? Please. How many foreign reporters have we beheaded?

Is your solution to simply ignore terror until it strikes you?

    Bad plan.

  5. I saw this absolutely great movie at a theater in Lima, Peru. It was in English with Spanish subtitles and played to a packed house. The silence at the end erupted into a spontaneous applause – no one moved for a while. The chatter on the way out was muted, respectful and a desire to see the film again.

The Peruvian’s understand the high price of freedom, having suffered through a communist terror campaign during the late 1980s. Because these fine people appreciate the cost of freedom, they respect those who pay the price.

Thank you Lord for men like Chris Kyle!!!

  6. The very same people that don’t value freedom, abuse it. You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. When another loses a freedom, so do you.

  7. I love how all the chicken hawks get all patriotic here in the comments. We did not need to go to Iraq. Pat Tillman agreed with me, look it up.

If you are worried about freedom and terror, the real war is right here, on American soil, against our own government. The NSA are the new Gestapo. Every year elected politicians rubberstamp a new bill to restrict a free Internet. Border Patrol agents set up checkpoints between states and counties and ask American citizens pointless questions while our license plates and driver’s licenses are scanned, when we have not committed any crimes.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and wait another 90 days for my next VA appointment.
