I am sad to report that the age old crockpot at the Buffet Bar and Crockpot has been replaced with a high-tech soup pot thing-a-ma-whatever. I understand that the crockpot — which lengthened more nights of drinking than pixels can accurately describe — was fit for retirement, but it will be missed.
The hot dogs, however, are still served on a coffee filter and delivered with the best condiment rack ever known by man or beast. I like it best when daytime bartender Peggy slams both hot dog and condiment rack down in front of me without ceremony before heading off to keep the rest of the crowd awash in tap Coors.
In other news, the Buffet no longer has coasters with the names of the bartenders on them, and the artwork has changed. It’s still rough-and-tumble, a little smelly and shady and all sorts of other wonderful things, but maybe just a little less so than in the past.

Thank the Health Department for the demise of the beloved Crock-pot. When The Buffet changed owners, some things had to be changed too, including upgrading the Crock-pot to “Commercial Grade”. As for the coasters, no fear, that is a tempoary situation, I hear they are on order. If you had taken the time to ask Marilyn, Lisha or Bill before running this, they would have gladly clarified these issues for you.
Hopefully they’ve kept the tradition of giving people a free Jumbo and shot on their birthday!
Yes, Al Tam, you can still get your free jumbo and shot on your birthday! Happy minute is also alive and well.
