Heist Pizza Parlour, the Aaron May artisan pizza joint which was located in the former Grandy’s/Rockin’ Baja Lobster/Big Fat Greek building at 7131 E Broadway Blvd, has closed after a little over than a year of service. They apparently served their last pies on Sunday and now the phone is disconnected and their Facebook page has been deleted.

Despite hearing some negative feedback on some of the food (although editor Dan Gibson gave the place a positive review in February), the staff at Heist sure did a great job and were always pleasant and fun. The concept was cool, and, hey, had some awesome names for dishes (ex. Everyday I’m Brusslin’, Hard out Here for a Shrimp).

Whether you were a Heist fan or not, I think we all agree it is sad to see an independent and local(ish) restaurant that employed many Tucsonans go under.

Good luck to the Heist Family from top to bottom, and yes, it is ‘Hard Out Here For a Shrimp’…

  1. Google maps street view still shows a picture of the building with My Big Fat Greek signage.

  2. That’s too bad. What’s up with that location that nothing succeeds there since Grandy’s?

  3. maybe if all who commented patroned this wouldnt be closed…Tucson lives in asmall town mindset…this is what kills those striving to succeed.

  4. They invested so much into the remodel and we were pleased every time we were there. This is a shame.

  5. i would say the location may need to be ‘spiritually cleansed’ before another restaurant try’s this location!! I only ate there once but it was good.
agree, i hate to see a local’ish business close!!

  6. There’s only about 50,000 pizza joints within a couple of miles of this place, can’t understand why this one didn’t make it.

  7. i heard they did the employees dirty and didn’t tell them the restaurant was closing until after their shift Saturday night and then closed Sunday.

  8. Dude, that’s the way things are done in “The Biz”. If “they” had told the crew a week or two early, 90% of them would have walked, then who would be doing who dirty?

  9. Very different food- I liked it a lot, but non- traditional places are hit and miss. Hell, restaurants in general are a tough gig. Wonder if the rent at that location had anything to do with it…

  10. I’m sad to see the place go. It was a nice alternative to the typical pizza joint maybe the name something to do with it failing.

  11. I would STILL like to find a restaurant that serves really GOOD Mexican food! I came out here from L.A. in ’07 and I’m used to the L.A. style of cooking. I tried the Guadalajara on Kolb and was NOT impressed! Every Mexican restaurant I have ever been to makes their chips fresh and they arrive to the table still hot from the fryer. And yummy too. Guadalajara didn’t do this. They served cold chips that I could tell came from a bag, probably a HUGE bag from Sam’s Club.
Tucson has a large latino population and there aren’t any good Mexican restaurants in this town???

  12. I managed that place back when it was Grandy’s, and I can tell you that back then the lease cost us just under 10K a month. Which was ridiculous back then, so with that kind of overhead just in rent you’d be hard pressed to keep the doors open on any kind of eatery at that location.
