As we all know, Proposition 201, which prohibits smoking in most public places, went into effect on May 1.

Not even a week since the proposition went into effect, I myself have been noticing the changes. For instance, my smoker buddies and I were at Frog and Firkin the other day, and they had to ask the waitress if they were at least 25 feet away from the building.  Thank goodness for their nicotine-loving souls that they were, but it was tough luck for the customers sitting at outdoor tables that were too close to the building and wanted to light up.

Has anyone else noticed any extreme changes in the past week regarding Proposition 201?

  1. I’ve noticed people communicating more. They’re discussing just how far twenty feet is from the door. Needless to say, no one agrees.

  2. I’ve noticed I don’t have to wash the crappy smoke smell out of my shirt after every time I go out for a night on the town.

If people can’t figure out how far 20 feet is, they need to get four of their 5-foot friends together, lay them end to end, and light up somewhere around friend four’s noggin.

  3. Oh the smell!, The smell. Yes, thank goodness I can now appreciate the smell urine, stale booze, and the cheap perfumes intended to cover up a day’s worth of body stench. Can you pass some laws so I can smell “Mountain Fresh™” when I get out of a bar? That would be tremendously convenient.

For you smokers, try these products out. Stonewall and Ariva are cig substitutes. Stonewall is a delicious wintergreen flavored hard snuff candy piece. Guaranteed to get you as high as a smoke. Its partner, Ariva, is another smokeless tobacco product. These are technically “dissolvable tobacco pieces”, also in the wintergreen flavor. Both claim to be a “spit free” tobacco experience.

Just remember that the Surgeon General warns that tobacco chews “MAY CAUSE GUM DISEASE AND TOOTH LOSS”. And keep it away from the kids.
