Robert E. Cole, 56, was struck by a train near North Seventh Avenue and East Seventh Street early Friday morning, according to a press release from Tucson Police. Officers from Operations Division Downtown arrived at the intersection around 5:26 a.m., and discovered that Cole deceased at the scene. Detectives from the Traffic Investigations unit have determined that Cole was crossing the railroad tracks and was hit by the westbound train. The next of kin have been notified, according to TPD.

This is the second fatality near this train crossing intersection in two months. 25-year-old man was hit on Wednesday, July 10. Hopefully, someone at the City or DOT notices and makes some changes to stop this from happening.

  1. The City and DOT have no authority over railroad tracks.THis guy who was with another person just couldn’t wait for a train to pass. He(they) Just had to try to beat the train.Well,He lost. Really, Really STUPID thing to do. And the guy a couple of weeks ago?He committed suicide.

  2. Yes, it was either suicide by train or inadvertent suicide by alcohol … not much the govt can do to prevent both of these scenarios.

This is an article? I feel bad for the victim. But you are running out of things to write about.

  4. Sad to hear about this, but correct me if I am wrong: Would it not have been *North* Seventh Avenue and *East* Seventh Street?

Or have I been away so long that I’ve got my old neighborhood all twisted around in my head?

  5. Hey Toni-Shut up.I know the engineer & conductor. I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED.Your friend & his buddy RAN ACROSS THE TRACKS in front of west bound 7,000 ton train moving near 40 miles per hour.Couldn’t wait 3 friggin minutes-could he/they? Tracks are PRIVATE PROPERTY-they were trespassing. This is not debatable.
And the guy a couple of weeks ago?He knelt down in front of the on-coming train. The real tragedy here is that the train crews now have to live with the actions of these inconsiderate pricks and idiots. Don’t worry about your writing,it doesn’t bother me a bit. Just like I don’t care if I pissed you off.

It’s the Tucson Weekly–reality is lacking at times. Sorry about your friends had to witness,

  7. Hi Toni Johnson from Bob Cole’s brother and sister- thank you so much for your words and sticking up for our brother.

  8. I am a retired Railroad Conductor, I ask you to search on the web, Operation Life Saver.org to educate yourselves a bit, pass it on to your family and friends. Who knows it may save a life or some one from serious injury.
    Thanks,
    Dan

  9. Cole drank hard liquor every morning with his coffee. Maybe his judgement was impaired, but none the less, Coles girlfriend blames the guy who was with him, when they tried to beat the train. Instead of pointing the finger at someone else, you should own up to your own stupid decisions.
