Jim Nintzel, from the courtroom, notes that Loughner is answering the judge’s questions in “a quiet but firm voice” and that he says he “understands the charges and penalties.”

The judge is speaking to Loughner now, recapping the incidents of January 8th, 2011, for Loughner to acknowlege that he understands what happened: “You…drew your pistol & shot her (Giffords) in the head at close range. Your intention was to kill her.”

The judge has asked Loughner if he understands that the life sentences are consecutive, not concurrent; Loughner replies that he has “agreed to that.” Sentencing has been set for Thursday, November 15th at 10 am.

More to come from the courthouse.

  1. The reference to her Twitter address in the image and the direct link to the tweet itself not quite enough for you, Red Star?

  2. The reference and direct link you mention do not work in Firefox. The actual hypertext link provided by Red Star should function efficiently and effectively in all platforms, all machines including mobile. It is, after all, basic hypertext.

Thanks and have a remarkable day, Dan Gibson!

  3. I also use Firefox and the links (conveniently accessible by clicking the tweet images in question) work splendidly, even on our mobile site. I’m confused by the trouble you were having, but if you have further issues with our use of links or images, please let me know.

Perhaps you are actually using Lynx to browse the web and not Firefox? Both programs have animal names, so that could be the source of the mixup.

  4. Nice try.

Haven’t used Lynx in a decade or so. Back in its day it was the best crawler.

Never a problem connecting to your links until your ineffective effort today.

Given the accelerated technological change, all the hyper marketing giz, the instability, the incompatibilities, the diversity, it might be that the most effective way, the one size fits all effort, is to provide in text, the hyperlink. Red Star did that. You did not, for whatever reason.

Don’t worry, get positive, this was only one day!

  5. I am quite positive. Lovin’ life, 24/7.

I’m just concerned that you might be having trouble with your personal web browsing experience, as I am unable to replicate the issue you claimed to have. User error, possibly? Calling my effort “ineffective” would be more understandable if someone other than a frequent critic of our web efforts using a pseudonym chimed in. I was sort of working under the assumption that our users are able to a) read and b) click things, after all.

  6. Red Star is glad to learn you are feeling better!

You finally have made some progress in making the image link to an *abbreviated* Fernanda splash twitter page. Originally the image linked to “file not found” or “unable to access” (it varied), in other words, a 404. Imbedding a link in a screenshot can be difficult.

The simple link to Fernanda, the real deal twitter, provided by Red Star still rings strong and true!

There is also, of course the question of why the Weekly was trying to piggyback another reporter rather than provide its own original work.

  7. I’m not entirely sure why you’re finding this difficult to understand, but I didn’t make changes to the links in the post (added links, yes; altered links, noooo), so any change in your experience with the embedded links was possibly on your end. It’s really not that difficult to add the link via our content management system and if you’d like to stop by the office in the next week, I’d be happy to walk you through how it works. Like a cheaper version of the Warner Brothers lot tour, but fewer opportunities to relive your memories of the show Friends! After the 14th, you’d have to run this offer by my successor, so snap this opportunity up while it lasts. You’re certainly a tough customer to please, so perhaps their handling of this position will be more to your liking.

Also, Jim Nintzel was sending text messages from the courtroom (some of his reporting is included in the post), but I thought it might be helpful to collect information from varying sources for the benefit of the reader. Ms. Santos happened to be an immediate and useful source at the time (until her laptop battery died, unfortunately). You can feel free to disagree with that methodology if you’d like (and I imagine you will!), but it’s not a terribly uncommon one in online media circles these days. If you noticed a better strategy on your news site of choice, let me know.
