The Phoenix mission put a robotic lab on the Arctic plains of Mars.
The HiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter continues to
transmit photographs of the Martian surface. The UA Steward Observatory
Mirror Lab crafts some of the largest mirrors in the world for
telescopes. Biosphere 2 offers a unique opportunity to study climate
change on a large scale. The UA Hammer Lab is using DNA databases to
track down the origin of mankind. BIO5 is bringing together researchers
across disciplines to create medical advancements. The Critical Path
Institute is finding ways to bring life-saving drugs to the market more
quickly.
Tucson has become a veritable petri dish of scientific investigation
and advancement.
In the upcoming months, we’ll bring you stories from the frontiers
of science here in Tucson. We begin this week with a peek inside
Biosphere 2, a conversation with UA College of Sciences Dean Joaquin
Ruiz and a brief survey of just a few of the amazing projects underway
in the UA College of Science.
