Politico is reporting that Chris Simcox, founder of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, wants to challenge Sen. John McCain in the 2010 GOP primary:
Social conservatives tolerated John McCain as the party’s nominee, but never trusted him, and he now appears to be facing a serious primary from the right in Arizona next year.
Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps and a prominent figure in the anti-immigration movement, will announcing tomorrow at an event on the Mexican border that he’s resigned from the group to run in the 2010 Senate primary.
We’re skeptical that “serious primary” is an accurate assessment.

This guy will get clobbered or crushed, whichever is worse. Dems delight: It is certain to be a complete circus! I’d almost toss Simcox a few sheckels just to prolong this car crash! Almost.
You and other democrats apparently hope that Chris Simcox gets clobbered and prefer to simply mock his campaign instead of realizing that voter irritation over government mandated health care and government mandated education and social services are what influenced former Governor Janet Napolitano [D-AZ] to sign employer sanctions into law and continue to reelect Senator Russell Pearce and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. I certainly find some of Mr. McCain’s positions to be principled, such as his claim to oppose torture by the US government. However, IMO the rest of Arizona isn’t all that much impressed with Senator Soft Republican.
Hey Thane,
It ain’t about hope. It’s about political reality. Check back in with us in September 2010. Barring a major health problem or a decision to step down, McCain will be the GOP nominee.
