Democrat Ron Barber, who is facing Republican Jesse Kelly in the June 12 special election to complete Gabby Giffords’ congressional term, has a new TV ad that reminds voters that he’s been endorsed by the Tucson Weekly, Arizona Republic and Arizona Daily Star.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Democratic Party sends out a mailer highlighting Giffords’ support for Barber:

This article appears in May 24-30, 2012.

Mr. Ron Barber is not committed to SINGLE PAYER HEALTH Insurance, BUT Charles Manolakis is. Mr. Barber, I read, won’t state whether or not he will endorse Nancy Pelosi, but Mr. Manolakis would. You ask Mr. Barber a question and if it is not in his NOTES he is NOT ABLE to answer. Is it his AGE after all he is 66 years old? Mr. Manolakis answers without hesitation. That to me says that Mr. Manolakis is more able and capable than Mr. Barber. I wouldn’t be surprised if Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t start to support Mr. Charles Manolakis. After all he SUPPORTS Nancy Pelosi’s Healthcare without DANCING AROUND THE ISSUE. and trying to dodge the question.
Ron Barber is already working for the district. He has developed a bi-partisan team full of watershed experts to deal with the Sierra Vista water troubles. He is already working with both parties to make this a better place. He is against big government and for loosening government restrictions on small businesses. He is tireless and courageous and he is endorsed by leading Republicans as well as Democrats. Do you really believe Manolakis or Kelly would have any idea what to do about Sierra Vista’s water problem? Could they reach across party lines to get things accomplished? I don’t think so.
Gee,if Manolakis backs Pelosi and obongocare then he’s as bad as the other two…..I guess we have to vote for the muslim brotherhood candidate……
Face the facts, newspaper endorsements are useless without voters being aware of them. People are going to other sources for their news and newspaper readership is down. Every week for years the biggest source of advertising outside car dealers was grocery stores and chains. Now even that is gone, that should tell you circulation is down. If candidates believe people trust and respect their local newspaper editorial boards then the campaign shouldn’t wait for the newspapers to let the voters know what the press is thinking. Ron Barber’s campaign is doing the wise thing letting the voters know by promoting the endorsements by TV advertising. Ron Barber is and should be proud of every endorsement he receives, most of all that of informed voters in the special election taking place right now.
Hakeson: A quick correction on newspaper readership being down: PRINT readership, at some papers, is down. However, at most newspapers I know of, the readership is higher than ever, if you count online and print. I know that’s the case here–and our print readership remains healthy as our online numbers continue to rise.
