The husband comes running out of the shower this morning, once again predicting gloom and doom come the November election.
McCain had just announced his VP pick: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
“See, I told you Obama should have picked Hillary. I knew McCain was going to pick a woman, and Obama is going to lose the election.”
So as I’m mumbling over my computer that I think he’s wrong and to leave me alone–typical morning conversation in our home–I come across the video I posted above.
If these are true Hillary supporters pissed about Hillary not getting the nomination or not getting VP, then they should please, please, vote for McCain, become a Republican … and stay far, far away … nut jobs.
Actually, I was thinking about locking the husband in a room with them just to see him leave screaming, “You’re right… you’re right.”
While I admit I’m not always right, I like being right.
While this election is historic in many ways, it has been one strange trip (locally as well). I understand friends who don’t care about politics. There isn’t a place for them in this crap, they insist. They don’t vote. They don’t think their vote is counted, or that in reality, these politicians don’t make a difference in our lives. They see that the line between Republican and Democrat is blurry lately, pretty blurry (just think about all those Democrats in office who voted for the war– when many of us thought they were crazy and didn’t see any clear evidence of WMD).
At times I think they are right. But my family has always enjoyed politics and believed that certain candidates could make a difference in their lives. I grew up watching the Democratic National Convention. The show and pace, those crazy hats, faces crying as the candidates and other pols speak–I loved it all.
But there’s one thing I really missed this year–I missed not having roll call. I missed the disorganized spectacle with all the state signs and different people yelling into the microphone on the floor. “The Great and Growing-Dryer State of Arizona … home of Janet … home of those Wildcat Devils … home of mutant cacti and crazy politicians … home of border crimes and border injustice … proudly nominates …”
I missed that.
I’m also not scared of Palin, but, sure, as I told the husband to go to the other side of the house and leave for work, I wondered.
Could he be right?
This article appears in Aug 28 – Sep 3, 2008.

Hillary’s women’s supporters were liberals and moderates. Palin is a gun-toting ultra pro-life conservative. Hillary and Palin both have boobs but that is where the similarities end.
I was alarmed at first, like your husband, but now I think it is almost a fatally desperate move on McCain’s part. It shows the contempt that Republicans like McCain have for women. Remember Bush Sr. explaining his choice of Dan Quayle?
This is what women of all backgrounds, walks of life, political affiliation and ethnicity need to consider about the republicans especially the so-called maverick.
John McCain is so shameful that during the week he sent his beauty pageant wife to Georgia he met with another beauty pageant/ cheerleader and average hockey mom who is much younger than them both. It is clearly obvious that he planned to pick a man as his running mate until he realized that the democrats were UNITED during this weeks convention. Having met her only once before and placing his full faith in her plays out in my mind like a man who meets with a call girl once and becomes so fascinated with her that he hires her to be his personal assistant. This is a woman who not only stated that she doesn’t know what the VP does, but that she doesn’t think pollution and fossil fuel has anything to do with global warming. Mrs. Palin is completely and utterly out of touch which has nothing to do with her experience but goes to the core of her judgment. If experience means so much to how well one leads how did President Bush who is clearly incompetent remove Saddam Hussein who ruled Iraq for some 30-35 years. There are countless things that can be said about a man, woman or child who serves their country or community but experience alone doesn’t account for critical thinking, calculation, ability or skill. Sure Mrs. Palin is the governor of Alaska, but it is one of the least populated states in the country and is a state with not much more industry other than oil, logging and fishing. If the republicans think that her being secluded up there on the Bering Sea makes her qualified to know the heartbeat of the mainland then I know the democrats welcome the fight. As for policies she is for overturning Roe v. Wade, drilling in ANWR, hunting endangered wildlife in Alaska, taking polar bear off the endangered species list, teaching creationism in schools and a whole host of other extreme positions. In addition she was for the bridge to nowhere before she won the governorship and then was against it, so woman yes, mother yes, neo-con yes, ready for the vice presidency, absolutely NO. No how, No way No McCain the republicans ought to be ashamed.
Oh c’mon… mom, if you’re going to write on the blog you don’t have to use the name weezy, just use the name mom. That’s fine. I don’t think Jimmy cares if you write on the blog. Mom… is that you… this is the same conversation we had yesterday afternoon.
What really got me about that video is that the Hillarys4McCain people are going after Obama because they think he’s Muslim. What’s so bad about being a Muslim? Certainly, if Obama were a Muslim (which he’s not), it would mean that he’s lied about it for several months and, obviously, that would be bad. But in and of itself, I fail to understand why being a Muslim (or Jew, or Hindu, or Buddhist) would make someone unqualified to be President.
But then again it’s probably not a good idea to examine the logic of a group as batshit insane (not to mention grammatically offensive) as Hillarys4McCain.
It was the Muslin thing that pissed me off most, too. I was like, so what bitch?
Maybe McCain needs help in the bathroom (figuratively speaking, of course). Of course.
Anyway, before it gets all internet-stale and stuff, here’s Alternet’s “An Ex-Beauty Queen for VP: Political Risk or Political Genius?” at:

Red Star ben tink on dat women poltik tang n dang, truin here wid id
These women were probably never for Hillary. They are pro-McCain and are trying to get disaffected Hillary supporters to switch sides. No real Hillary supporter in their right mind could support McCain.
How is it that the Republicans tout that abstinence only is the best way to prevent teen pregnancy and then praise Mrs. Palin for supporting her teen daughters pregnancy. I personally don’t like abortion but I don’t think it’s my place to choose for someone else. Another thing that I find very disturbing about their pro-life stance is that as a party they a pro-war, pro-guns (including the assault weapons that are being used to kill off the youth of our communities), pro-death penalty and pro-animal slaughter for sport. How is it that they can square these positions and get away with? I would like to get clarity on these issue and hope that there will not be religious references used to argue their views.
(Pauses, reads).
.
Nope, no, I’m not going to touch most of the subjects raised here.
.
I will say that Palin’s lack of experience swings the independent / moderate vote to Obama as Palin brings no comfort in her leadership capabilities. McCain will need to explain Palin; Bush never had to explain Cheney as he was in the background. Basically McCain’s political crew screwed the pooch with this choice.
.
Hillary supporters should support McCain. It will teach them a lesson that being petty and manipulative — almost an embodiment of Clinton herself — by trying to screw Obama’s race will end up blowing up in their face with who they elect into office.
As for Muslims, to the average American there is a big difference in their acceptance levels between a Muslim and other religions because a radical sect of Muslims were the key force behind 9/11 (conspiracy theorists jump off the boat NOW). The group behind 9/11 was a radical organization fighting “in the name of Islam” but it does not represent the average Muslim. However most Americans don’t know a regular Muslim in person to compare and contrast. If this is the first understanding of that faith for many people — as in, “oh shit these people want to kill us, it’s in their Bible” — then that will be hard to shake off. This makes Obama’s father’s faith an easy target, because it’s a simple modus ponens:
.
If Obama = Muslim
And Muslim = Bad
Then Obama = Bad
.
Forget that Obama isn’t actually a Muslim in his official faith. The logic pattern I put above is the argument that some sheeple still believe and use as an arguing point. 9/11 bred instant hate against Muslims as that was an instant and polarizing first impression of the Muslim faith.
.
First impressions count more than you would imagine. Ask this guy I talked to the other day. This guy was raised in Europe and moved to the American South where he was the manager. His first encounter with a black person was a rebuff of an order he gave this employee to handle some extra task. This European — no roots in America — was told point blank by this black employee that the blacks worked hard enough during slavery and that this European — no roots in America — should apologize for the slavery his white ancestors did before the Civil War. After hearing that story I kind of figured out why he’s a racist: bad first impression.
According to media (VP candidate under investigation in her state for abuse of power) Palin claims her teenage breeder “chose” to have her upcoming baby. Does that mean she’s pro choice? Did she really have a choice?
And did you hear? McCain Raped a Boy. Ooops! forgot to Fox it up. McCain Raped A Boy??
Super-hot image of Playgirl Palin here:

Anyway, Red Star suggests it’s not Palin one need fear. It’s McCain. And the impression he is being handled. There is a habit this in the Republican party. Is the “maverick” being handled? Think of it this way: had Hillary Clinton won the Democratic Presidential nomination, would McCain have picked Palin? Throw that at all the different flavors of righty.
Those Hillary 4 McCain women aren’t really pro-Hillary! They’re just right-wing shills being paid to pose and make people think such people really exist. It’s called astroturfing. And ask you can see, Ann Coulter’s sister is really into it.
