While biking around, I tend to pay attention to the buildings, the people and the murals on the sides of the buildings more than I do zooming in my car.
I started taking pictures. Here’s the first–this great building in the Dunbar/Spring neighborhood. Anyone out there know its history?
This article appears in Aug 7-13, 2008.

Indeed. Perhaps long ago there was a bike rack out front there…
I know its history: It was owned by a guy named Jim, and they tended to sell fresh milk and bread there (after previous attempts to sell rotten milk and bread didn’t work out).
I guess I just have to get my ass over the Elections office to look up more voting records.
Duh: They didn’t sell fresh milk and bread. Read the sign. It says “Fresh Milk Bread.” That is, they sell Milk Bread, which is also known as Dairy Loaf. It makes the whole idea of a cheese sandwich redundant.
Try Milk Bread today!
Ask over at Vanishing Tucson for the history of the place: http://www.vanishingtucson.com
However, I can say that this is on 9th and… a few blocks up from BICAS on the same road. (I have my BICAS bike right here in the hotel room in Seattle).
.
Of course, you’re closer to this place than I am. Red Star’s dry sarcasm is right: bike rack or not, drop by next time and tell us what you find, Mari.
.
Likewise, anyone know about ReThink The Link? (The group that doesn’t want the 6th Ave. re-route to cut through and destroy Dunbar Springs – lots of community impact.) The correct news cycle to pitch passed by a few weeks ago, but I figured I’d make mention of it: http://www.rethinkthelink.com . The neighborhood and other opposers to the re-alignment say the decision process was rushed and didn’t openly seek enough public input on the project. The grassroots group has fought the project since months before the decision was finalized to approve the re-alignment through their neighborhoods.
.
Of course, from talking to some, people have opined that it is futile to fight now that the re-alignment is now going to be reality per the 8 July approval.
.
I look forward to seeing how the opposing viewpoint to the re-alignment will be covered when the 3D Alignment gets underway, as I haven’t seen any local coverage from anyone on it yet.
You missed out on signing up for the photo walk of Tucson on August 23 http://www.photoshopuser.com/photowalk/citieslist.html maybe you can email the person in charge of it and see if anyone has dropped out if you’re interested in taking some pictures around Tucson. Should be pretty interesting.
