  1. How very inappropriate to make light of the dead guy. In my view, which I do realize may be opposite to many of the readers here (especially as it regards gun control), perhaps comments like this should have waited a day or two before whipping out the cheering section for this or any person’s death.

  2. Keep in mind this is an establishment paper. They aren’t showing disrespect because Heston’s methods are at times awkward and goofy. This small group of media owners must sell quickly the agenda of disarming the public. Weeklies try to look hip (I emphasize try) so this was allowed to pass. While this paper poses as alternate news, it’s goal is shared by the majors they criticize. They are simply posers – not a significant alternative.

  4. I wanted to confirm what J.T. has stated. When you are first hired at the Weekly you’re given a pamphlet that list the rules for working as a reporter for the Weekly. At the top is to pretend to be hip so we can seem “alternative.” Some of us are better at it than others. I’m really struggling, since the last time I thought I had to be hip was in the early ’90s, but I’m confident that Jimmy will give me a thumbs up by my year review. I’m half way through the pamphlet and had to read up different definitions of alternative and another section on language and clothing options. Just wait, we’re going to get there JT… I promise.

  5. While Heston’s support for the 2nd amendment may have been over the top, his support for civil rights in the ’50s and ’60s are often unmentioned. He was on the platform at the Lincoln Memorial when the Rev. King delivered his “I have a dream speech” and marched with King at a time when mainstream support for civil rights was a death knell for Hollywood actors. JT’s comments were a bit cheeky, but so is the (predictable) comment about his death on this blog.

  6. What is it with this respect for the dead guys bit. Respect Tricky Dick? Respect Saddam Hussein? If you don’t respect a guy when he’s alive, how does dying give you a pass? Heston was an actor and gun rights advocate. He lived a long fucking life and did good in the eyes of some, bad in the eyes of others. He put himself in the public arena and that means he’ll be hated or loved in the media after-life, forever. So, he liked guns AND civil rights, one doesn’t exclude you from the other. He’s dead, oh well, add him to the pile of dead people. Hasta la vista Heston! You was the best Moses ever.

  7. Maybe Heston can go explain to that 3 year old in detroit (assuming they are in the same place) why she had to die – so her stupid parents could pry the gun from her cold dead hands.

    I’m just saying it was disrespectful to cheer about someone’s death in the wake of said person’s death, and I apply this to anyone. Reporting and reveling are two different things.

  11. Michael Savage is a hate monger. Plain and simple. That guy is an egotist, a brainwasher and a borderline racist. People listen to him for entertainment value and when anyone opposes him, he’s quick to scream Liberal or atheist. No rational mind would take Savage seriously because he is so blind.

    If you’re going to listen to (less hateful) conservative radio, go for Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck or Laura Ingraham. Each discusses things from a different perspective – Beck talks economics, Ingraham criticizes the logic of big government, and O’Reilly tends to get defensive but at least listens to opposing viewpoints unlike Savage.
