Okeh, so here we go again… Tom Danehy once again feels the need to turn his column into an anti-vegetarianism shtick.
Mr. Danehy: “I always give stuff up for Lent. … I’ve kinda run out of things to give up, so I’m open to suggestions.”
Suggestion: Give up writing about vegetarianism!
Danehy: “Please don’t say that I should go vegetarian.”
D’oh!
“I’ve done that twice in the past, and it sucked both times. …
For 46 agonizing days, I ate nothing but lettuce and carrots and beans, and I was miserable.”
If that’s what you ate, you have no one to blame but yourself. (Again, is there some reason you can’t make a distinction between “vegan” and “vegetarian”?) Vegetarians can eat cheese, which really hits the spot. So does tofu and its many variations (Boca Burgers, etc.). A hamburger with a tofu-based patty is as filling as a beef burger. Some vegetarians will also eat eggs, which like cheese do not involve killing the animal.
Come on, Danehy, if you’re going to knock vegetarianism then come up with something better than a B.S. story about how you tried it once and only ate carrots ala Bugs Bunny. Myah…..what’s up, Tom?
Danehy: “I was irritable and light-headed, and I couldn’t work out worth a damn.”
And now you’re Charles Atlas, right?
Danehy: “And the smell of meat, while not sickening me, actually became one of those sensory nirvana things, like the sound of a basketball swishing through a net or the sight of my wife walking in high heels.”
Ha ha, that’s funny, I feel exactly the same way about the sight of your wife in high heels. Anyway, you really should attend a cremation sometime. The smell of burning human flesh is virtually indistinguishable from the smell of BBQ. This is partly because pigs are the 2nd closest animal to humans, genetically speaking, after apes. But whatever man, if the smell of burning teen-spirit is your idea of Nirvana, then rock on, Tom Cobainehy.
Danehy: “I tried it again a few years ago, and there was no difference.”
Still couldn’t pick up a recipe book after all those years of gym workouts?
Puh-thetic.
Spanking?? oooohhhhh. fun stuff
Re the Legal Eduation article. It seems that the Why part of the 5 W’s was left out. Why was she fired? We never find out. TUSD lawyered up but supposedly the focus of the story, Kelly Munsell, could freely discuss the reasons for her being fired and why she believes it was wrong. The closest we get is a mention of dueling psychologist reports and her not meeting some improvement plans. While the reporter certainly spoke to a bunch of people involved int the process, one never finds out what she had done to be escorted off a school campus. Its hard to come to an opinion here because although we know about the process, we don’t know why the process began.
Thanks Retrorv for the criticism. You make a good point. She had until December to make classroom improvements and in the hearings records the school said they weren’t made. Once a lawyer entered the picture, her odd administrative leave ended. Then she was asked to return in the fall. Then it happened again and the termination process began in May 2007 based on charges of inadequate performance. Thanks again Retrorv. Your comments are always appreciated.
I want to highlight Randy Serraglio’s guest column piece regarding voter issues. It brings important information to the table and makes me wonder about some things we saw in previous elections.

I too was fraced by a simular situation as Kelly Munsell. My issue was at the same school in 2004. I can totally relate to Kelly Munsell. She is a good person with much to offer students. I worked with her for many years. My situation was before hers and it too was swept under the rug. I alomost lost my job. Attorney General was of no help what so ever and I never had a lawyer. I too had a problem with my wrist and was sent in for a “fit for duty” exam that came back the same as Kelly Munsell’s. This is the way of TUSD. When someone knows to much or becomes a threat this is the path that TUSD takes to get rid of it…. I was under the administration before the one that is there now. My principal is at a different school now. I know one other person who went through the same thing with the same principal as me with yet another wrist problem. She too lost her job and was forced to transfer to a different school. If they dont like you they get rid of you. It has nothing to do with what a good employee you are.
