After accusing state Rep. Daniel Patterson of domestic violence, Georgette Escobar has now recanted the charges via Facebook:

Statement of Georgette Escobar about Daniel Patterson

I had a breakdown recently. I’m now stabilized and working on getting better.

Daniel Patterson never hit or committed domestic violence against me. I never needed an order of protection against him. I’m sorry.

I disagree with the ethics complaint, investigation and charges against him. He should be found innocent.

Georgette Escobar

Escobar was arrested on charges of meth possession in La Paz County after making the allegations against Patterson. She recently announced, via Facebook, that she was now embracing the Republican Party and has claimed Ronald Reagan as an “inspirational figure.”

State Rep. Ted Vogt, the Republican chairman of the House Ethics Committee, tells TW contributor Hank Stephenson that the ethics investigation into Patterson is continuing and that the investigators who are looking into the allegations have asked for more time.

More background on this story here and here.

  1. LOL @ all those people coming to Georgette’s defense in earlier posts. B’s lie….

  2. It’s a relief that she has found Reagan to be her personal savior and help her through her troubles. I hope Rep. Patterson watches all his credit card accounts carefully, since Reagan Therapy can be a bit hard on budgets.

  3. I don’t condone violence but if she really wants to help him she needs to send a notarized statement to the house ethics committee. I also hope she has to pay restitution for police hours spent on false reporting. It’s irritating that she would ruin his career especially with the state republicans looking for any excuse to remove a democrat. There should be consequences for her actions.

  4. “Yeah, cause there’s no way they got to her…*face palm*”

    Who? The little green men?

Seriously though, it seems like her judgement is severely compromised and its not safe to judge which story of hers is real, if any.

This is not a defense of Patterson. I don’t like the guy at all he’s an arrogant jerk (doesn’t mean he’s a criminal) and maybe he’ll work on that until the voters get to weigh in again on his lack of judgement (I didn’t vote for him last time).

  5. FYI it’s no secret that many, many people involved in DV disputes “recant.” Sometimes because pressure is applied, sometimes just on their own because they don’t want their partner to get in trouble once the hysteria has died down. That’s why the laws let cops and courts proceed even if the alleged victim has recanted.

The public often looks to victim
behavior, either during or after an
assault, to determine if that behavior is
consistent with its expectation of how
a ‘real’ victim of domestic violence or
    sexual assault would behave. Members
of the public who are uneducated
about victim responses to trauma may
    view a victim’s counterintuitive behavior
as evidence of her lack of credibility.

    For example, the public often
    mischaracterizes a domestic violence
    victim’s coping mechanisms as evidence
of her complicity in or responsibility
for her abuse. As a result, victims
who recant are viewed as liars whose
original reports to police were baseless
    accusations concocted to manipulate
the system, or, in the alternative,
    they are perceived as pathological
    women with low self-esteem who
enjoy or perhaps deserve their abuse.
    Either interpretation has equally devastating
    consequences as both often
result in a not guilty verdict in a criminal
    prosecution.

  6. That is true nunaurbiz, but you don’t convict people on what happens in some cases. At the very least you need a preponderance of evidence. Mental instability and psychotropic drugs also have an affect on someone’s counter intuitive behavior as well.

Let’s stop beating this lifeless horse and go back to talking about who will next be profiled for thuggery by the GOP– thong underwear wearers?

  7. LOL @ the loons STILL defending Georgette in this post. B’s lie

  8. Red Star wonders whether the copycat phenomena is at hyper-play these days: Limbaugh. Fluke. Sgt Bales. Murdered Afghans. Trayvon. Zimmerman. Unpleasant two-bit state leg and someone, supposedly. Jan Brewer throwing the finger around. Hey, let’s require you to view a video of the insides of your body…

  9. This is like a bunch of stupid cowboy’s ready to lynch Patterson until a driffter comes along and shoots the rope……gee progressives can be idiots also…???

  10. It speaks to our need to withhold judgment until the facts are in. Americans shouldn’t be so obese from all the exercise we get jumping to conclusions.
