It’s a sad showing as far as Tucson support for next week’s Arizona Beer Week, with only a handful of events scheduled locally. The mighty 1702 is the only place truly throwing down with events taking place Monday through Friday, although there are events at Maynards Market and Kitchen, Pasco Kitchen and Lounge and the Zona 78 location on West River Road as well.

You can read about the local events here. It doesn‘t appear all of 1702‘s events are listed there, so you might want to contact them directly. The event at Pasco – which is $30, including four courses – will include the local unveiling of SanTan Brewing’s Sex Panther Double Chocolate Porter. The other events include another beer dinner and a tasting. Is it possible to yawn oneself to death?

I wonder if any of the local microbreweries even knew about this event of if they opted out for some reason. I know it’s sponsored by the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild, but it doesn’t even appear that Barrio Brewing Co., which is a member of the guild, is participating. Weird.

  1. Just like “Arizona” Cocktail week, also occurring next week, the organizers came to Tucson as an afterthought. These events should be called Phoenix Beer/Cocktail week. Kudos to 1702, Pasco and Zona for trying to be a part of these Phoenix centric events. Next year we should just organize our own gustatory celebration and forget our selfish neighbors to the north.

  2. This is a shame…why not pile ANOTHER event into the Tucson calendar for next week?

Let me see…golf, rodeo, soccer, a few gem dealers who didn’t get the word that it was time to move on. Maybe we should re-do the college basketball schedule next year so we could do THAT in the same week as all the other stuff.

Then we could go back to being the sleepy town that we are for the other 51 weeks of the year.

  3. To say that the busineses in Tucson didn’t have any events in of Beer Week is hardly the fault of the AZ Brewer’s Guild. This was the event’s second year (Year 3 beging 2/23/13) and any bar, brewery or restaurant could submit an event. Really? They were really unaware?

Both Phoenix HOMEBREW clubs had events. I’m sure every homebrewer and Tucson knew what was going on. Maybe you should tap into that resource.

You don’t need Phoenicians to fill out a webform for you and host an event.

  4. I’d be fine with calling it Phoenix Beer Week, with the exception of 1702 Tucson is really beer wasteland. Nimbus makes crap beer, not craft. Barrio is owned by a egomaniac and the new places are too small to matter at this point.

  5. Gee, Flagstaff, Sedona, and Prescott got the word. Then again, Flagstaff has ten times the beer scene of the Old Pueblo. Tucson was just too-stoned as usual to get off the couch. Don’t make it out to be Phoenix vs. the rest of the state thing. You may now return to your regularly scheduled siesta.
